65 Tempest AFB Choke Issues
So my 16 year old son has a 65 Tempest Custom 4 door. It came with the 326 2 barrel, but we had a 4 barrel intake and several AFB carbs kicking around, so we put a kit in one and swapped it. I'll be the first to acknowledge my lack of carburetor skills, but the car runs fine with it. The only issue we're having is with the choke. I set the choke to be closed when the engine is cold, and it will fire right up. But as it warms up, the choke opens less than halfway. If I adjust it so it's open when hot, it won't start cold. I tried another choke thermostat (admittedly, they're both used), but got the same results.
Any advice on how to make the choke work correctly? The choke and all linkage move freely. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Importsmasher

Intake crossover open?
Vacuum in the fresh air line feeding air to the hot air choke system? |

Yes, the crossover is open, and I made sure the heat tubes were clear before we installed the intake.

Ok, looks like you need to adjust the choke rod:

Looks like the wrong choke rod. All the AFB's I have have a bend in the rod. You change the bend to lengthen or shorten the rod.

This is an NOS AFB notice the bend in the choke rod.
