400 block main cap dimensions
Hi all
I'm still designing my custom road race oil pan, but I still haven't had the courage to pull the motor Could someone measure the main cap dimension from block to windage tray mounting bosses if you have a motor open or a spare cap? I need to determine the gap between the stock oil pan and the windage tray to determine how much gap there is for oil return. If it's less than say 3/8 I may need to use the canton pan I'm currently running because its deeper at the front of the motor. Thx |

I get right at 3.015" on a 455 and IAIIA caps. 400 should be the same.

Great! thanks
so the windage tray is 1.3 inches, and the pan is 4.5 so it leaves a clearance of 0.2 inches. I wonder how much of an impediment this is to oil returning to the pickup? Last edited by reacp911; 01-28-2024 at 04:07 PM. |
