Ordered a new set of rear tires for the bird from Tirerack. 275/50/17 Nitto 555 G2. They are shipping out of Minnisoda and should be here in a few weeks. These are nearly impossible to get in this size in Canada for some funny unknown reason. I can get the front ones 255/50/17 easy, but the larger size is never in stock or available for order from local suppliers.

Not really on my Pontiac, FOR my Pontiac.
My Harbor Freight 2.5 ton jack I bought only about 7-8 years ago wasn’t working at the top of its travel for the last few months. bled it, added hydraulic fluid, same thing. My son tried to lift his pickup truck over the weekend, and it just blew out altogether. So I stopped at NAPA on the way home from work, and found this on sale. 3 1/2 ton, and much nicer than the old HF one. Hopefully it will last longer!

Rented this trailer Sunday and hauled the GTO back to the shop for some work. Was a breeze with the tilt bed feature.
Have a very odd 'clunk' seemingly from the back half of the car that is a bit baffling. Only happens when just about coming to a stop and slightly turning the wheel to the right (and not every time).

You should have painted Pontiac blue for 20 instead of 10.

Did not start this today
I decided to get into this TH350 that quit a couple of years ago. Hard upshifts finally resulted in a bigger bang.
Found the problem

I ordered a 3" x-crossover kit from Summit, along with muffs, hangers and ball/cone adapters. I already have the tails and headers. I was surprised to learn that RAR doesn't have anything in 3" anymore. Also got a Hydroboost-capable PS pump coming. Still have to order a fuel system.....
Finished up the TH400 FINALLY after having it apart for the 20th time....checking and correcting clearances, updating pump, and then again to install a snap ring that I forgot.....SMFH Just have to finish the shift kit, fix the gov, put on the pan, and then my converter, which should be here next week. WOOT!! Finally found a decent pair of headlight bezels too. Last edited by 65 Lamnas; 03-21-2024 at 08:53 PM. |

I hate how long it takes to bleed the air out of these Pontiac motors, lol. I usually leave my Trans Am idling for 45 minutes with occasional rev-and-holds to 2k RPMs before I see the bubbles stop coming up, and even then I'll have to add coolant to the recovery tank for at least 2 or 3 more drives before it reaches equilibrium.

Paint removal and polishing on the grilles for the Le Mans convertible.
Most of the paint had faded away from many years sitting in the desert on the car I salvaged these from so there really wasn’t much paint left on them. Using some 0000 steel wool removes what’s left of the paint and removes the layer of dull scuzz off the clear anodized surface. I’m going to leave them bare and bright and forgo the painting. Almost ashamed to admit it but both of my beloved ‘64s haven’t seen the road in 20 years, but I haven’t given up on them.

I know where you are coming from, Bart. You tinker with them all the time. So do I. Looking for parts. Meeting new friends. That's what it is all about. Tinkering is as much fun as driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've put a million miles on them and hardly ever start the engines. I do love the smell in the garage when they do start. My wife DOESN'T!!!

Dropped the steering, matched up new parts, all looks good. Drove GTO around the block a couple times. That’s all
I got in me today. It’s Sunday, I’m old and tired, that’s the story I’m going with.

I started ours today. It fired right up. I'm looking forward to warmer weather for driving, but that might be a month yet.
Also bought everything needed to completely rebuild the extra rear end that I have, with a new posi and 3:55's. All new brakes, hardware, lines, cables, seals, bearings, etc. Only reusing the axles and the housing. |

Trying times
Both cars have new engines and transmissions and suspensions rebuilt or heavily upgraded. Tempest needs exhaust installed and the wiring completed. They need work on air conditioning systems among hundreds of other small things. Le Mans needs the upholstery and top done, it just never ends. At least I can say they’re both about 80% paid for up to this point.
Keep in mind within those last 20 years I brought my ‘64 GTO bracket car back onto the street in 2007, it sat unloved since 2002 after I stopped racing then sold it in 2013. I took a break from cars in general after my first wife’s passing in 2011 and didn’t really even go in the garage for about 5 years after remarrying in 2012, starting a new life kind of makes you forget about car projects. Then brought my 2 old VW buses back to life starting in 2017 and 2019 respectively, each one sat over 25 years while I was playing with Pontiacs. Each bus took about 1-1/2 years of my free time while working full time, one had sat from 1992 ‘til 2017 and the other 1994 ‘til 2019. In December 2020 I dragged home my old 1957 bug which was my second car ever, bought it from the son of my now deceased best friend and have spent the last 3 years and bunch of dough focusing on that nostalgic journey of bringing it back to life. Sourcing parts and labor has been difficult the last several years as you all can understand Needless to say my interests wander and I don’t stay focused on just one thing. Huge milestone today, finally bolted on the Hurst wheels I bought in 2015 for the first time. I was lucky enough to score a nice unrestored set from a forum member, they weren’t advertised but it never hurts to ask if something might possibly be for sale. Trying to get motivated I guess.
