Default Male dog question

I have a 15 month old Cooker Spaniel , fixed when he was about 10 months old. He still squats when he tinkles, I’m fine with it, but my other males were lifting their leg by now. Anyone else have a male do this?

My male Yorkie usually squats at home, but when out for a walk on the local trail, he lifts and tries to pee on everything

It took our male Yellow Lab quite a while to lift his leg.

we have english mastiffs, they lift when they want to hit it high but the oldest kinds of crouches when he feels like. Both of these guys are over 200# with the oldest approaching 260

Our Border Collie fixed at about 7 months starts in a squat, ends with a leg lift, he's about 8 years old now. He's trying to be diverse and PC Also does a little kick dance to keep the artsey crowd happy.

Dog's are just like people. They're all different. Who cares if he lifts his leg or not? If he's a good dog that's all that matters. Having an intact male (like mine) can be a bit annoying with them wanting to scent mark everywhere. Of course, I have a female that scent marks all the time too. And interestingly, she will often start squatting when she's marking and then lifts her left leg a bit mid-stream.

Lifting legs is a learned behavior with a little help form hormones. Hormones gone probably won't.

Our male 7 yr old Golden Retriever has never lifted his leg. He just kind of leans forward and lets it rip. Every male Golden we have had has done the same thing.

Our golden is a squatter normally unless he is marking then he’s a leg lifter. As long as they go where they are supposed to no big deal

I've had several cockers that were neutered at an early age that never did the leg lift. My current one included.

Our dogs are leg lifters, except sometimes (like this am) one squats for the 1st morning pee of the day.

I don't read anything into that.

My male golden retriever does what I do, if I lift my leg he lifts his leg. If I squat he squats

I thought the same, gotta keep the puppy off of tictok!

However, I dont think its a real problem. Once he wants to lift his leg he will. We have 1 male Chihuahua that is 10 now. Wife had him fixed even though he wasnt broken! He still 'marks his territory' mostly on the other dog's toys. The other 4 in the house are females. My wife will never get another male.

One of my female Brittany's will lift her leg. Maybe she needs therapy or it's just a phase, lol.

My interpretation of these behaviors is not really any kind of sexual confusion or anything like that. I think it's just a more assertive or "aggressive" dog, male or female, that scent marks a lot. And marking can certainly be for mating but also just for being more protective of their territory. So again they're all different, just like people. And obviously, it makes a huge difference if they are neutered or spayed, especially in males, and also at what age that happens.
