My 03B '70 Tempest from Arlington has amber lenses. I think they're original. When I got the car in '04 it had damage to the valence and a broken lens. I eventually bought a replacement from Pontiac Heaven after extensive searching.

Good, it's about time somebody started reproducing them!

Beautiful! Granada Gold on a Tempest is as good as it gets in my book. Any chance you have the original steel wheels that came on the car? Given the lack of Decor group, I'd guess that car came with color-matched wheels and poverty caps. I love that look.

Default '70 Tempest Sedan

I gotta share in the Granada Gold love here... original 400 2-bbl/TH400/2.56 rear gear car built in Oshawa. Please excuse the bufford decal on the air cleaner lid.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...p?t=724318this how it looked when I first bought it. It war customized by the grand kids. I imagine it had poverty caps? I would have to get a PHS or find the build sheet to verify it.

Are you describing just the front lens or both the front and side markers?

Any guesses on the dates?

I see repro front lenses are on the Ames web site. Any sources for the sides and color variations?

Mike,

My '70 Tempest Sedan 09E has Amber Side/Amber Turn

'70 Lemans Sedan 03B has Amber Side/Amber Turn

"70 Tempest Coupe 06D has Amber Side/Clear Turn

If that helps narrow down the change over time...probably not.

Thanks Dennis,

Mine is 09C but the sketchy front clip history means I have no clue how it was delivered. I like your amber/amber answer! If I can make it happen, amber/amber would be cool, but if none of these amber lenses are repro'd, I will be lucky to get anything...

I should say that I have no idea if these lenses are original to the 4-dr cars, but are to the coupe.

I broke the mold and bought a couple amber turn lenses.

May not be correct, but I kind of like them. Clear turn lenses dominate online images, but I've always liked this photo:

And I found this sales brochure that also makes me feel better:

And yes, there are many more sales brochure images with clear turn lenses..

Is it possible state regulations regarding color of turn indicators played a role in this?

Seems a mystery this forum could solve... probably a mfg change bulletin or print revision somewhere to document a transition?
