Hi:

I recently found out that my 455 Y code TA has a cheby carb from the previous owner that is likely due for a rebuild so I'm wondering if I should try to find something more appropriate.

Is anyone selling an operational qjet or rebuildable that would work with my '74 shaker?

I'm mostly cruising with some spirited driving. Unknown injun build. Some kind of performance mods, shift kit/auto, 3.08 posi/AC.

How much r u looking fer yers? Rebuildable/year/cfm?

Pontiac Quadrajets before 1975 all used 750cfm fuel bowls;
The exceptions are:
1971 400/st & 455HO
1973-74 SD455
I have several, but only 750cfm Pontiac applications.

I found a link HERE of one's I had offered a while back.

I think I still have many of these (I have never been too worried about selling stuff, and don't list on eBay any more).

I wouldn't sell anything that needed more than a light cleaning, gasket seat and replacement float without letting a prospective buyer know about it.

I sold more carburetors in years bygone when I had a running car that I could swap the carb on to test run it.

You´ll need a 1973-74 Pontiac hot air choke Quadrajet to fit your shaker.
And, 1972 and earlier uses a divorced choke located on the intake and 1975 and later uses a float bowl vent chimney located differently from the 1973-74 units and will make your air cleaner sit crooked.

You're correct about the 75-later units, EXCEPT FOR the 301 carbs that end in 272....17058272, 17059272, 17080272. They DO NOT have the chimney which makes them much more versatile as an upgrade for many different applications. 17059272 pictured. No dealing with any "bowl vent chimneys" with these carbs.

Those are nice units too, however i don´t consider them "Pontiac" Quadrajets as they are the "Oldsmobile" style units and have a somewhat poor secondary POE outlet location and open vents behind the choke housing that may spill fuel into the secondaries at hard accelerations. Not a problem with a 301 i guess.

I have a complete 1973 Q-Jet, # 7043266. It woulkd be a rebuildable core that I removed from a 1973 Grand Am w/ 400 and AT. Date Code: 1303, Application Code: JJ.

Pascal gave me a two for one deal on a pair of '75's he had in stock. One is missing parts so hopefully the retiree down the road can make one out of two.

I ordered the rebuild kit from Cliff on the 28th however it may have been faster coming on the slow boat from China.

The courier sent it from OH, to NY, then TO, now it is in Winnipeg...I think

Ruining my summer for sure... 😑

Hopefully it all works out and there isn't any surprises with the air cleaner/modified shaker setup.
