dual 4-barrel shaker.
Has anyone attempted to modify the heck out of a TA's shaker scoop for dual 4 barrels? Is it even achievable? Or a crazy dumb idea? I'm guessing there probably wouldn't be enough room for the air filters?

Just to say you can? Probably need a custom larger shaker to suit custom larger base, with custom larger hood hole, to match custom intake, with dual carbs jetted so small to work on an engine that doesn't require that much.

Maybe his engine does require or can use that much... have seen lots of dual quad street pontiacs out there with edelbrock 2x4 intakes. dual 500's are common for blower dual quad engines too.
Making a shaker work on a pontiac engine will take a lot of work for how to mount it but 2 carbs will fit in the scoop... heres a link to how one guy did it using the popular small air cleaners like on tri powers instead of a modified base, not sure how its mounted but its still a functional shaker with stock hood hole, but it is a sbc, pontiac engine may be more difficult. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=769817 |

It's a combination of "because I think it'd be cool" and maybe I'll build and engine that can use dual 4-barrels. I just started working on the car. It'll be a long project with lots of research involved.
Something I've never fully understood is why an NA engine would have dual carbs. Other than more even air flow to the cylinders, is there a real advantage to having two 450 cfm carbs vs one 900 cfm? Like I said, lots of research is needed on my part. |

In my opinion , yes. There are 8 small venturies atomizing the fuel vs. 4 big venturies . i have used a pair of holley 9776 450s on several customers cars with the Offy 2x4 intake (not endorsing the intake, it's just what was available) Throttle response was excellent, almost like Hilborn. BTW, engines were in the 462-468 cid range with 232-242 int dur. @ .050.

As for the shaker, I’d try to lengthen one and fab a base. Anything can be done if you put your mind to it! Ken, a 9776 is a 750. Is that what you meant?

No . A 9776 is a 450 with mechanically staged secondaries and a single pump. It is designed for an open plenum intake such as the Offy or tunnel ram. Summit used to sell a SBC tunnel ram package with the 9776s. I personally run then on My (retired) 18' flat bottom Hallet with 425 Buick nailhead.
