You'd be surprised! Braces, latch and the screen mesh will rust out just like any other metal part.

But where would you get that original smog encrusted 1972 air from? The closest you could get nowadays would be the repro air from China.

Excellent point! And to think I just took the original spare tire off of the rim on the 70 Formula I just bought, and neglected to save the old (original) air. How foolish of me.

Here's a few pictures of my '73 after I got it home, cleaned up, and inventoried.
It's a bone stock, 66k original mile car that came out of the Southern California/Nevada/Arizona area and ended up in long-term storage in a collector's barn here in Texas. It's still wearing it's original Buccaneer Red car, and was also a factory honeycomb car with the Y99 suspension. I'll be pulling the original 350/TH350 drivetrain and setting it to the side in favor of a 400 stroker and a Doug Nash 4+1 swap. The car is currently completely disassembled for restoration and bodywork is in full swing. Hoping to get it back together for final assembly and paint late this spring.

Gotta LOVE those original paint California cars! Bonus having the Y99 suspension and 15" Honeys as well. What other options does it have? A/C, gauges, Formy wheel, radio, etc.? Hard to tell from your photos - what color is the gut?

Fairly light on the rest of the options. It is a factory A/C car (although that will be going to make way for a Vintage Air kit). It got all the optional moldings except for the top of the doors and back of the hood. I like that combo, and will be keeping it just the way it came. I won't be adding a rear spoiler either, but the '73 plastic front valence will be going on as part of the resto. Interior was pretty spartan. It got a console, but no Formula wheel or extra gauges. Standard AM U63 radio, no longer present. Standard black bucket seat interior. I have a set of '73 Rally gauges and matching woodgrain bezel that will go in as part of the restoration, and I will also be adding the Formula wheel. To me, that steering wheel is what makes the 2nd Gen interior. I'll be upgrading to a deluxe black interior, as I've always loved the look of the horsecollar seats that came out that year. Probably going to do a console delete. I really like the look of the manual cars with no console. I'll keep the black interior, but may experiment with the '73-only red carpet option. We shall see.

71 warehouse buy
My 71 - 4 spd, non air warehouse buy. All numbers matching and correct except for white seats (blue interior otherwise), parked in the warehouse for well over 22 years due to a dropped valve. 20+ years under Bat Poop was hard on the original paint. Pic 1 in the warehouse, pic 2 moving day, Pic 3 into the little barn behind my house.

So, it is originally a white interior car converted to blue? Deluxe? How about some more details? Great find! Plus a Judge in the pic too?
