Four years later, 2000 hours (give or take) and I didnt keep track of how much money I spent on it. It moves for the first time in who knows how long.

Long story short, he isn't getting the car. His daughter and wife went nuts, they have been trying to run me out of the state. Dave and I get along fine, but he can't keep the car. There is no way I'm going to let either of those women profit from my work. I'm not the only one they are messing with, I think she had some kind of mental break.
It runs and drives good, so I've been thinking of selling it to finance a new shop. I lost the old shop in the divorce, and bought some land nearby to start over. This shop will be much larger 40x60 so I can do more than one car at a time, and store all my parts in there too. Its been sitting since last fall, I'm going to bring it out and do some things to it, and hopefully get the glass issues fixed. It could be driven this year, but my priorities are getting the shop built and a better living space on my land. Might be a while before I update this again. |

Dude, hope things work out for you. If you are able to keep Dave's GTO or build other Pontiac projects, I'll keep checking in. Anyone that can take rusted classic Ponchos and bring them back (hopefully) inspires others to do so. Good luck and post updates for the pure pontiac fans,lol!

Well, after all that, I'm just glad this went down before you let them get their hands on the car. Let us know if you do sell it. A '65 is on my bucket list.

What would you give me for it? You know what it came from, what's in it, and my 2000 hours of blood and sweat. Damn near a brand new car. Its where I've been living so I can finish it, should be drivable by this weekend.

I only wish I could make you an offer for it. If I didn't have two already and one of them sitting outside I'd do it. Just can't justify it right now. I even like the color.
Maybe by the time you do make a move with it, I'd be in more of a position.

One thing that has been left out of this story is, that the Vin: number shows this car produced as number 65 . I am sure their are a few early GTOs left out there, but a 1965 and production # 65 is rare in itself.

I knew I did not have the know how, but you have the most interesting thread ever on this sight or anywhere else. For someone building a car, this is a play by play, day by day, how it 's done thread. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and yes, I am amazed at what you have accomplished.

Thanks David, it was beyond my skills too, I learned how by doing it. Its my first build of this magnitude.
I've been working on the GTO this week, have it getting closer to drive able daily. It has exhaust under it, the carb is working good, timing set, suspension nearly done, and an oil leak fixed today. The bolt holes in the timing cover where it meets the oil pan were stripped. Pulled the cover and tapped the holes to 3/8" and put back on. I think I will do this to all my engines because the stock bolts are almost always stripped out. Tomorrow will consist of getting all the lights working, running the wire to the gas tank sender, and working the bugs out of the throttle. At some point I need to work on the rear window, its a long way from sealed. More pics and a video of it running coming soon. |

I don't understand. Is the blue car the same as the yellow car? Did you do a re-paint? I really liked that maize. Kind of a rare color.
