Looks like it’s a flat piece of metal than spans from the inside flats of each bank of lifters. So instead of a dog bone that captures both sides of the lifter flats, it will be only on one side of each lifter. Should work if the clearance between the lifters and the retaining metal are very close.

That's correct. All the plate does it keep the lifters square to the cam lobe. It's not just an idea, it's something I have done and logged plenty of miles on. First time was back in the early 1980s with a solid roller cam, 4 speed and 4.88 gears.

Well, this kinda puts an end to my product I've been developing... When the world makes a better mousetrap...
It's a great idea, far simpler than what I was doing. I am curious how you'll maintain the .010 or less clearance around each lifter with block casting variances. I'm excited to see this reach production!

OHHHH... You posted while I was typing- I see!
That's FAR simpler than I was envisioning! Very crafty!

Great development zilla! What are the advantages to this new set-up compared to the comp cams 31-1000 kit?
The comp kit spider does not look very rigid but more of an apparatus to keep the dog bone from raising above the lifter shank. Also the dog-bone solution appear to marry two lifters together, like the retro-fits, but on two sides although I am unsure if this is an advantage? |

IDK. I like the idea of the Dog Bones. If that plate has enough clearance, the lifter can twist slightly, and put side loads on the roller. I don't think they can tolerate much of a side load? That plate would be good, as amore rigid way to hold the dog bones down. But I don't like the idea of the dog bones jumping up and down when the flats of the lifters run into them. Just thinking out loud, why not grind the flats of the lifters longer with a surface grinder? I really like this idea though!

I was looking at using BBC 502 roller lifters and grabbing them by the side, but your solution has a certain elegance to it. If I decide to swap out the solids I have I will snap up a set of the lifters you have with the proper oil band. My prior experience with hydraulic rollers was not good, and Lunati's arrogance concerning their crap product was something to behold. |

With this setup is there any need for the lifter bore mode. Is it still a good idea or not needed?
I'm referring to grinding a groove from the lifter bore oil hole down another 1/4 inch or so. |

I’ve got another video I’m shooting with better lifter options than my last one- stay tuned!

JC455, I would find it hard to believe there would be a better option in terms of the oil band then the LS7 lifter given the fact of how high the oil band is already. If a reduced base circle is the primary way of getting more lift, then my question ends up being how many degrees of rotation does the lifter cover up the oil feed.
Really trying to understand if any solution is drop in or would it still be best to tear down the block down in order to perform the mod. I look forward to your next video. Last edited by rohrt; 02-08-2021 at 12:21 PM. |

Not needed with our system. The lifters are a simple drop in. That was one of the main factors. If you have a running car and decide to upgrade to a hyd roller, you can't swap it out as an assembled engine if you have to grind grooves in the lifter bores. With our system, you swap cams, drop in the lifters, set up the plate and go!

Randy, I have a Crower solid roller I'd like to try this setup on, to your knowledge has anyone used this type hydraulic lifters on a solid roller cam? Is there any reason not to try this adaption.

Better hydraulic roller option video
I just posted a new video for Pontiac V8’s with hydraulic roller lifters.
I have a new/better option!! Apologies to GTOFREAK- Paul Carter. I referred to you as Paul K... I was thinking of Koerner Engines from your signature. https://youtu.be/n5Gb_adlG-Q And a HUGE thanks to Tempest1964!

I definitely like the fact that the oil fill holes are in the groove area, not the OD of the lifter. I also like the way the lower lifter is clearanced for the roller wheel, as applies to quick ramps and scuffing. I don’t think there will be any structural integrity issues. I guess an engineering load test would be the only way to tell for sure.

Nice clear video. That shows an unshrouded Roller. Think i would prefer the shrouded Roller body.
The Longer body and oil ports are better. |
