I wanted to make sure that when I do bring the car to Race in a few weeks after more Tuning and Break-in that there is nothing that needs to be done in order to meet Track/NHRA Rules, as its been over twenty years since I've raced. Yes, They said Metal Valve stems are Required. As for, what they looked for: Secured Battery Dual Return Springs on Carb Radiator Over-Flow Gas tank with Sump, they thought it was a fuel cell Seat Belts Undercarriage Safety Loop being about 4-6 inches from Front U-Joint Wheel Lug Nuts A few more things... What I need to do is install my Harness(11.49 or Faster), valve stem change(12.00 or Faster) and Engine Diaper(10.99 or faster). Steve |

Ed and I made it to the track today to Race. First time in 20 years.
Just ran street tires. 60' foot was horrible. Wasn't able to give Full Throttle until about 1/3 track. On the Time Slip, my car is 270 The second time slip is me racing against Ed in the 1969 Camaro. Steve Last edited by 67'7F6'Bird; 08-17-2014 at 06:45 PM. |

Good job, must have felt great to go down the track again. I'll see you up the track in a week or two after you get some Hoosier QTP's.

UPS has been busy coming by.
Received my new American Racing Rims for my Drag Radials, Cal-Trac Wrenches & Spark Plug Reader. I needed street tires before the Slicks, So I ordered the Nitto 555 R Extreme Drag Radials 275 50 15. Should be in early next week. Steve |

Steve,
I'm doing the final adjustments on my Caltracs tonight and those wrenches look like they would make it much easier. I hope to go up to the track next Wed night but I won't know until Monday or Tuesday. The drag radials should provide you with the traction you need to get a full run. Good luck with the car and make sure all the bolts on the car are tight, especially the rear suspension.

Hi Tony,
I will check the rear suspension and make sure everything is tight. Hope you run some more low tens this week. Ed and I might try to go to the Track Friday night if we get everything in order. We both need Helmets and I'm waiting on another tire as one came today. Below is the Nitto 555R Drag Radial. I went with 275/50's. I feel 26" or 27" diameter looks the best. But nothing other than Slicks could I find in 27 inches with my 15" rims and Custom rims are not in the budget yet. Steve |

Well, Lets just say the Nitto 555R Drag Radials are not gonna cut it.
Car weighs 3650lbs with driver. 455 72 iron round ports 11 to 1 compression Domed pistons TH400 w/ tight 3000 stall by PTC Ford 9" w/ 3.50 gears 25.75 diameter street tires Im thinking the Slicks will need to be 11.5 X 28 on 15" rims. Ran 3 times: Car 155 1st Run with 35lbs in the Nitto 555R tires as I drove to the track: Ran 12.3582 ET @ 118.82 mph, 2 more miles per hour than 2 weeks ago. Only changes where 4 New rims & tires. Fronts are 1.5" narrower now Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R 205/60 VS. the Bf Goodrich 245/60. Changed the Rev limiter from 6200 RPM to 6800 RPM - Just wanted a little more RPM, not that I shifted that high though, Yet. 2nd Run with 22lbs in the rear tires. Did a good burnout, they seemed to be sticky. Loaded the converter to about 2000 rpm light went Green then annihilated the tires for 60 feet. 2.37 60 foot. Shifted too early into 3rd and only went 114.47 MPH @ 12.676 Tons of smoke trailing behind car at the top end when I took my foot out of it. 3rd Run with 22lbs in the tires. Another decent burnout to get them Hot. Gave it less throttle on the green light. 60 foot was 1.944 My shifting on this run was too low. Ran a 12.102 @ 114.94 Tons of smoke trailing behind car at the top end when I took my foot out of it. Max Timing is set currently set @ 32 degrees. Idle timing is 25 degrees. All in around 2000. With some more experimenting with less throttle off the launch, the car should run high 11's in Street Trim. I like seeing the MPH going up. Checked the plugs and they are way too Rich, gonna down jet it today and reset idle mixture as my gauge is finally accurate now that I welded the 4 tube header into the collector. - Shaker455 has been telling me to get this done. Moral of the story - "Listen to your Carb Doctor." I think with Slicks, more Carb, chassis, timing adjustments and better driving I hope to see 122-124 MPH and a high ten second run. Also, got home put the car up in the air and tranny fluid was all over the exhaust making my car smoke at the top end. I had purchased the rear seal and received it Thursday, not installed yet, but there was fluid further forward, Ed thinks the vent was leaking it out. Not sure why, either its over filled or in need of rebuild or foaming due to O ring issue on the Filter inside. Have to look at it better today. Steve |

Any photos with the hood on?
Is there a reason you went with the nittos? My old Ventura went 1.6x 60 ft @ nearly 3700 pounds on MT drag radials. You may need to loosen the front end up. |

Hi John,
No photos with the Hood on yet, as its still in my living room. I went with the Nitto's for my street tires because I've heard good things about them, will get much more mileage out of them compared to other Street Drag Radials, I didn't want to have to buy a new set each year for the street and plan on getting Radial Slicks for the Track only, soon. Also, diameter play a role in choosing them too. I know I need more drive time and I will learn how to launch with them better. Pictures below are with the New rims and tires all around. 4 Tube headers welded now to the collector. And transmission Tail-shaft removed awaiting new Yoke Sleeve. Steve |

Installed the Transmission Tail-housing with the New Bushing & Seal.
Thanks Steve @ LEE MYLES TRANSMISSION 201 Washington St, West Roxbury, MA 02132 (617) 327-2120 The Drive-shaft was borrowed and a little short so I got a new one. Similar to the Denny's Nitrous Ready Drive-shaft from Brookline Machine, They have been in business 75 Years. http://www.brooklinemachine.com/massachusetts.asp I got the Dimensions to them at noon today and it was completed by 4:00pm and spin drying for 30 minutes. It is 3.5 Inch Diameter Steel with Spicer Solid 1350 U-Joints and Spicer Slip Yoke. When installed it has an Inch clearance to the Tail-housing. Everything now Feels tight. Picture 4 shows the dirty exhaust where the transmission fluid burned on the pipes. Any suggestions on how to clean this without removing the aluminum-coat? Also Wrapped the headers about a foot more on each side. Steve |

Don't worry about the oil stains on the exhaust underneath, get the car to hook.
