I'd like to do that, not sure I'll have the time and I want to get my belt throwing alternator set-up fixed before I do that so I can run and not dick with the alt.

I went yesterday to get a front end alignment, one of my upper poly graphite control arm bushings was wasted. Just another thing to fix.

Iv'e only driven the car a few times after the last trip to New England Dragway. Noticed my idle oil Pressure was lower than previous. thought it was related to Idle being too low in gear.
When you Rev it up the oil pressure normalizes. But in Gear I thought was too low. So upon further inspection today with more tuning, Ed noticed the Roller Tip on one Rocker Arm Cylinder 2 was eating away into the tip of the Rocker Arm.

Now, there was metal in the topside of the passenger side bank so I pulled the Drivers side cover off and much less metal on this side but still had some in there.

If the oil pump check ball is lodged open with debris shouldn't the oil filter catch all this metal? Why am I seeing metal particles on the opposite bank.
Is there something else now wrong?

We are going to pull the motor and see what happened inside, "Stuck Oil Pump Check Ball" or "To be determined." I flushed the oil a few times but still seeing shiny particles in both heads with valve covers removed. Oil pressure does not vary when running 10/40 or 20/50.
Oil pressure keeps going lower. No more engine starts.

I needed to address a rear oil pan leak, Chewed up Flex-plate from Rough starting issues and will be putting in the LSM Camshaft.

LS1 Firing Order, 252,258 Duration @ .05 112 LCA
.660 Lift with 1.5 Rockers.
.726 Lift with 1.65 Rockers

Camshaft was Designed by the owner of LSM.

Let me know what you find when you get the motor out.

We pulled the motor, Pulled a few rod caps and small pieces of Copper were embedded into them. Pulled the Camshaft and large grooves were dug into all of the Cam Bearings.

Thrust checked in at 11 thousandths.

Top End disassembled and brought everything to the Machine Shop, R&L in Dover, NH.

I am having Leo go through the Heads - Disassemble, Clean and Reassemble.
He went through them in 2010.

The Block will get Honed and all new Coated Bearings installed & Polish Crank. And anything else Leo comes across will get fixed.

The Oil Pump check Ball was not stuck open.

What did the main bearings look like? Check the thrust surface of the crank.

Hi Tony,

I didn't pull the Main caps, I asked the machine shop to see if he could determine what caused the damage.

We did notice my torque converter had the head of the flexplate bolts riding on it, as the paint was gone with slight impression on the torque converter, the flexplate bolt heads showed slight wear too. This was shimmed properly with washers when first installed and there was about an 1/8 inch gap. The converter has anti-ballooning plates.

The push-rods are comp cams - welded ends.

Update - Well - "Not Good."

The Crank Cracked in a few spots contributed by:

Pistons were too loose for the current bores and rocking too much.

Bearings were Beat up Bad - as if it was detonating a lot.

Aluminum Rod Big Ends now need to be re-sized.

Main Cap Dowels were a little looser than my machinist likes.

Looking for a New Short Block, ANYONE?????

Steve

That sucks Steve. Are you looking for a race SB or something you can just through in and drive?

Hi Tony,

The HO Heads are fine, they have been disassembled and inspected.
A few guides were a few thousandths out of tolerance so may have them changed. Otherwise clean everything and they can be assembled.

For the Short-block, I'll consider anything.

Steve
