The fact that the 455 wasn't even allowed in a Judge until late in the '70 build, is a strange one.
I didn't see John's post earlier, but the 455 was not allowed in the Judge until late in the '70 model year (I presume because the 455HO was the engine for '71). I wish I had copies of '70 letters/memos. |

Interesting footnote 5 for sure. I haven't seen this brochure before, thanks.

My guess is that it's just a coincidence. |

Same problem on the PHS for 69 2bbl (265 horse) cars, if the PHS shows a automatic with no engine option then the only way to confirm if it's a 2 bbl or 4bbl car is by buildsheet or by physical inspection of the car for clues. (unless the car had a HD Safe-T-Track on a non air car, then it couldn't be a 2 bbl since those 3.36 or numerically higher axles that triggered the HD posi were not possible with that engine)
On the option pricing comment there are some interesting things, for example on a 69 judge the option price is to the penny double that of the Ram Air engine ($337.02 and 168.51) Also again on a 69 if you add up the cost of all the options included in a Judge you could argue that it was a bargain: Ram Air engine 168.51 Ride and handling 4.21 Rally 2 84.26 Shift knob 5.27 (wood grain instead of T) Rallye stripes 13.69 (the pin striping versus the judge stripes) Special paint 115.85 (special paint color-hadtop non Cordova) Total 391.79 So for $54.77 less than the cost of those options you got also a spoiler, a black grill, decals and the glove box emblem (not to mention 50% better resale if you waited 30 plus years!) I believe that the reason behind all the options being multiples of the $.5266 was to be able to quickly adjust for inflation all kinds of options at once, especially in the days of high priced data processing where every byte was precious.

I just wonder what the build time interval was on the 16/17 cars. One week? One month?

Its still hard for me to believe that only 1 Documented Example is known to exist.
Too bad McCarthy didn't/couldn't get those VIN's dug up when he was doing his book. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna make a L75 / WT1 / WT7 tribute-clone with my 70 455RA car. |
