I recall going to a Pontiac dealer in Plano Tx back in the day, it had a multi-story parking garage attached to the dealer, you had to take a elevator ride from the showroom up to each level. I remember going up and seeing 3 of these parked all in a row up in the garage. I know I took a photo of them, but I have no idea where they are today.

Car Guy, that's a real nice GP. She looks show ready. It's hard to be able to hang on to a guy that long.

I hear ya ! A couple other projects got in the way. Here's a little more work done on the driver side floor and door jamb. The other door jamb is in good shape, but I'm going to weld more to the reinforcement brace as I have done on the driver side. Hoping to show some more progress sooner than later.

Looks real good. I think that the cracked door jambs are caused by bad hinges that are not repaired in a timely manner. Too many door "slam cycles" to shut it.
CAR GUY> Nice 86, I really like that interior. My GP has a 60/40 bench with the pillow top look. Its not sporty but its kinda cool and comfy. |

Car guy - what did you get those front seats out of? They look like late 3rd gen, early 4th gen f-body seats. I was thinking about putting those in my 80 Grand Prix.

I noticed back in the day that Pontiac started putting the same bucket seats in Firebird, Grandam and Grand Prix. Right around that time, '85 or '86. |

Awesome! It looks like i will be junkyard crawlin tomorrow to try and track a set down I just wanted to know what cars to look for. I wanted something a little different than the Monte SS buckets.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. My car is completely original. I think those seats are part of the LE package. I added a Buick Grand National exhaust when the original finally gave out and the water pump has been changed. Everything else besides maintenance items are original. When the starter and alternator gave out I rebuilt the originals to keep everything as original as possible.

Been dragging a worn out 65 GTO hood around for about twenty years [if you want to call it a hood]. Anyhow I'm going to graft it to the wife's stock aero coupe hood. Here's what I've done this week to it. I had a friend do the same for me to my 84 GP back in 1985,always thought that scoop fit the body style, being a square body car.

Getting some work done on the aero coupe shell. Got the body stripped down to bare metal and to my surprise no holes in the outside sheetmetal. She does have dents all over the place, including the roof. I think I've now got the shell fairly straight. Next step will be coating the shell with some polyester putty and the block sanding begins.

The shell is now covered with a coat of high build primer with the polyester putty to follow.

I've got he hood where I want it now. One final blocking and it will be ready for paint.

That actually looks pretty darn good. Some guy up here in the 80's did that to a Pontiac... about the same year as the one you are doing .

Mike, while it was stripped bare, you ever think abot going ahead and doing what Pontiac SHOULD HAVE done and make it a hatchback? Get rid of that barely-a-trunk opening and put it all on a hinged back window!

Not really, but using the trunk is limited the way it is. Maybe a mid 80's firebird hatchback could be retro-fitted to the car. Trying that on a regular GP might be a fun project.
