"I would be hard pressed to offer the owner 5K ,never mind 8500, that guy should jump on it, I can only imagine what lives in that garage, good luck "
If an owner is not serious about presenting a car for sale, how can he expect auction prices? Wouln't you be embarrassed to have someone see that?

I would ponder this one for a while. Having owned a column shift 72 Formula, I can tell you that the market is way less for them than a floor shift car. If you invest a bunch and change mind, really, few people will want it. It will be a 20% deduction off comparable cars with floor shift (pure WAG, IMO). One might get forgiveness a bit on a prior years HO car. I would buy a column shift car if in good condition, but not a resto one. Column shift TA's get a bit more love, but still, who looks for one?

Where I disagree, this is as good as it gets for a '73 Formula short of a SD; it has some major key options going for it: - rally gauges - L75-455 - a desirable exterior paint colour - a desirable interior option I would suggest that the next closest car to compare this to would be a 1971 Formula 455-L75(auto only), followed by a 1974 Formula 455-L75(auto only)... I would totally agree, if this was an 1971-1973 L30 (350-2bbl), or a 1972-1973 L78 (400-4bbl) car.

The column shift and that nasty cloth interior kill it for me.. But for $8500 and it being a 455 in decent shape... I'd haul it home... clean it up and cruise it around.

I don't think the Neutral interior goes all that well with the Admiralty Blue, but looks good with Brewster Green.

Good call! This is a rare case where making a non original change will increase value, rather than a reduction.

When it gets old dirty and stained it is. I'm not a fan of light colored interiors.

Light color interiors can be so problematic to restore. They don't age well, and the various materials and finishes from factory all age with different hues it seems. Getting one back to snuff can be a master task involving someone very good with mixing dyes. I love Tuxedo interiors, and also this one, but they flippin scare me.

I absolutely love Admiralty blue, especially with the accent strips down the side.
Light cloth interiors are real hard to keep clean. I hope you can find correct replacements. |

I love this color combo - have always been a fan of the blue with saddle, beige or chocolate brown interiors. My Corvette is Laguna Blue with Brownstone interior. My Silverado High Country Diesel is Deep Ocean Blue Metallic with the Saddle Brown Leather interior.
This 73 Formula has the same custom cloth interior as my 74 Formula 455 with the exception of the dash and console color. In 74 the dash and console was the lighter saddle color similar to the seats and door panels. I saw a blue/saddle combo at the TA Nats last year and really liked it. These custom cloth interiors are rare, and this Neutral interior combined with the column shift makes this 73 - as optioned - a very rare combo worth saving. I agree that $8500 is a solid offer for that car in its present condition. I hope you can get it. I would probably keep the column shift though. Cool car! BJ

I finally received a call from the owner of this Formula. He agreed to the $8500 cash price. He is travelling overseas in a couple of days, so I will finalize the deal, and pick it up sometime in late May. More updates and photos to come!

Agree, I think this dark blue/ light tan color combo would be absolutely stunning when fresh.

Congratulations!
I for one hope you leave this unique Formula as built... I suspect it would ALWAYS be the only one like it at a show - no matter how big the show.

I think the light colors, such as this tan one and sandalwood interiors, do not age well, and they can look "nasty" when they got old and worn. However, I agree with 68bird400HO, "this blue/light tan color combo would be absolutely stunning when fresh." If I were restoring this car, I would definitely put it back to original.
