I offer this up my good friend Carl Taylor was made competition director at tx motorplex about 6 weeks ago they are going to run several nhra heads up saturday races in 08 the schedule will be up in a few weeks. if a group wanted to organize a friday night all day saturday race. track rental would not be neccessary. just pay your entry fee 20.00 the core group would need to tech our cars for heads up classes and handle the ladder, and all problems concerning our invited group and race. the plex would set aside 4/6 lanes for us. it could work .what do yall think

For me it's about 2 hours 15 minutes, only an hour longer than Baytown and much friendlier folks!!! Down side on just test and tune night the track isn't always prepped well,ie poor traction.

Who doesn't like 1/8 mile racing vs no racing? I can understand having a preference but I would not pass on it especially if it was a PSN event. Royce city has an exceptionally nice track/facility, it's only a few years old.
Also, there is another new track being built not too far from here, around Kauffman I believe, and I think it's going to be a 1/4 mile track.

Well there's obviously a lot of tracks - maybe a rotating schedule would be another option and utilize the opportunity to race at a different track each year or every few years.

Personally, I'll be happy if they just have the event. I really enjoy the Pontiac gatherings. There are a few smaller events at San Antonio Raceway and they're a ton of fun. Just not the size of PSN.

My vote - just have the dang thing and I'll show up with my rusty '69

Location makes a difference for many of us. I'm in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dallas is a no brainer. San Antonio makes it a LOT tougher. I'd rather have the Dallas area and 1/8 mile than San Antonio. No offense intended to those hosting the event. Just my selfish desire.

Correction, it's not a 1/4 mile track opening up in Kauffman it's an 1/8 in Crandal (close enough) but it might expand to 1/4. Anyway, the 1/8 mile tracks get a thumbs up from me in lue of the 1/4 mile track availability. You can do the math with you're 1/8th mile slip and ya pretty well know what the car will do in the 1/4 your just not beating on the car for another 3 or 4 seconds or whatever the case might be AND there's less chance of an incident at the big end since your speeds are lower. Might not be your first choice but it would still be racing at PSN right? Since were expressing our personal preferences I gotta say I'd be hard pressed to make it to San Antonio these days, not that I wouldn't want to. On another note I would like to know what's not receptive about DAPA and I hope rtanners friend can turn that around, also why are vendors shunning PSN?

Quicksilver,
It is not that vendors shun the PSN, but rather just the distance they have had to travel to attend the event. Most of the vendors are hundreds of miles away, and the expense is too great when put up against what they can make at the event. Its the same thing with people on this board saying that San Antonio may be a stretch for them. Everybody has a limit on distances they can travel.

Yep it's a long haul to San Antonio. Without the exact address for the track, it's showing 815.90 MILES and 12+ hours drive. I'll just wait until a time when they can get it closer to the North border and not the South. Good luck to the guys who make it! JD

Lloyd I agree on Hennesey personally have heard bad business things form him(my IT guy's dad has multiple Vipers,Prowlers(designed the bank vacuum tube sytems or something) and Hennesey screwed him on some things-he even has his own chassis dyno in his home garage that is adjacent to Vargo's on the lake there). But I think the track has multiple investors(or suckers) and recently they are building a new building to have a tuners "school" on the premises.

I personally prefer 1/8th mile racing since it is easier on equipment and a smidgeon safer, but if the event was held in san antonio i'd consider making the haul from DFW. The organizers need to consider designating an official hotel for people to stay at, and hire security to patrol the parking lot so that the racers could get some sleep without worrying about their stuff rolling away in the night. Or work it so that people could camp at the track.

Shreveport Lousiana..... Red River Race way....How about that track ? It is a nice 1/4 mile facility and more centrally located IMO.... Maybe next year someone might check into that track.

Although it's the same for me personally, Dallas made more sense in general for everyone in the region. It was much more centrally located for the majority of the people involved. I will go to San Antonio without hesitation, it's about the same distance, and there is more family activity for the rest of my "crew" to do, so that's a big plus for me.

As far as the 1/4 vs 1/8 mile goes, I'm in it for the people first, so the racing, although important, is not as critical to me. Let's just have one, forget the details, have the most people there as possible, and have a blast... but that's just my opinion.

Well guys - it is indeed a done deal. June 6-8 2008.

Car show will be held on June 7th, at Retama Park (a horse racing venue), NE of San Antonio on I-35 near Loop 1604.

http://www.retamapark.com/

Racing will beheld on Sanday June 8th, at the above referenced San Antonio Raceway, East of San Antonio on I-10 in Marion, TX.

DAPA public relations officer Rob Bender has promised that DAPA will post here with ALL of the details soon.

For those attending from Houston, once the host hotel has been announced I will be reserving a block of rooms for us in my name. Please contact me if you're attending and I'll keep a list.

first off, In defense of the houston clubs, PSN was offered to us some years back, but the bad publicity associated with it and the negative feedback about relocating it to Houston from Dallas, (just like above, the distance, the cost, the gas mileage, what about the family events, hotel too expensive, no good place to show cars, etc.) it was decided not to take it on. Next with the Baytown track, the Gay family no longer has ownership in the track. They still have influence but no deals thru that route. Lastly, it was always about a combined car show and drag race event that did the event in. Just like here, little mention is made about the car show side and more about the racing. Well, that is the downfall since car show people generally do not always race and the reverse, racers don't always like the show. Then you want to add in family outings as well... race tracks normally are not close to family areas and the hotels are also not there. The theme should be one or the other, unless you have big sponsors and a budget and get national attendance like POCI, Ames, etc. It was also tried to get GTOAA nationals here in Houston, but again, it was well it is too far to go, well for us NY or SD is also too far. No one is happy. We do need more Southern events.
