Thanks everyone for this feedback.
Aron, I'm not sure I've seen original motor '72 Blue/White/AC TA's floating around for $12K. A couple of reference comp cars would be helpful if available to help spot this car in the scheme of values and such. I did see a few totaled engineless vin no's sell last summer for $6K +/-. $5K for to bring the engine back... ugggh... your probably spot on, if it can be saved. I should have clarified the front clip and spoilers/flares are with the car, but your right, all the bolts and incidentals such as vapor canister, washer bottle etc are missing. Your point is well made thinking about chasing all those items. Regarding sharing the info with the seller on this thread, unfortunately, he does not have internet access. It's a little challenging even getting pictures and details from him. Formulabruce and RAJ, it does seem like it's worth saving, but since it's challenging getting pictures, I don't have the detail on the trim tag yet, but I do have the PHS. It's X2N518XXX with a ship date of 12-02-71 so yes it's an early car, but probably a 11C or 12A car. My 521XXX is 12B with a ship date of 12-17-71. BossbirdTA, that is a some set up for the 8-track. Thank you for the picture. The surround for the 8track and the stand are probably unobtanium, which speaks back to Aron's comments earlier about having to chase parts. Finally, I was able to find some pictures here on these threads of column shift auto's. They definitely are different.

True, I have yet to see a Lucerne blue one #'s matching for 12K,,,,,,but I HAVE seen a 71 and a 70 white #'s matching last year for under 10K. They needed some work, but were in driveable condition. And I personally missed out on a #'s matching 73 that went for $5800. I spoke with the guy who bought it....he flipped it on ebay for 12K. He bought it with that intent, and he got hate mail on ebay from guys in his area who had seen the original craigslist ad and then his ebay auction.....lol. Cant blame the guy for trying to make a buck.
Anyway, these cars are out there if you do national searches on craigslist frequently. Not saying you'll find a blue one, but ask yourself if blue is worth twice the headaches? Although.....if you are telling me some of those items are there, then maybe it IS worth 6K? But not much more I think, especially if the interior is shot too. |

Oh great, now that the hardest part to find for the restoration is found, I suppose it should be a cakewalk to parse this car back together Thank you RAFormulas for this information and for offering the part to go with the car if purchased.

There is also an odd 8 track mount I've seen on console delete early cars....its in a plastic pedestal mount fitted to the centre tunnel but mounted facing forwards just behind the front seats....not sure if its correct for 72, and I can't find a pic of it...sorry.

Wow, this car is practically restoring itself. I feel like it's almost ready for paint. I wonder if there would be any surprises along the way....

The under the dash pedestal mounted 8-track shows as "cancelled for 73" in the assy. manual. (sheet 12L 14) Console mounted is sheet 12L 15. The forward facing mount just ahead of the rear seat on the hump actually shows the installation with the console in place--and the sheet (12H 22) is coded with "D55" which is the front console. It is also shown only for the cassette player and not the 8-track. (Mind you, this comes from the 73 assembly manual.) If this is a no console 72 with 8-track, then it's the pedestal mount under the dash. A cassette player in '72 was not available with front console, rear console, 8-track or rear seat speaker.

On Firebirds, the 8-track player was mounted on a pedestal under the dash on non-console cars and in the map pocket location on center console cars.
Cassette players were pedestal mounted under the dash on non-console cars and behind the console facing forward since it wouldn't fit in the map pocket area. The only behind the console 8-track pedestal mount I've seen is for G-bodies since there is no place for it in the console. |

Hi Lloyd, we decided to drive straight through on our way back Saturday evening, so it was the wee hours of Sunday morning when we passed through Houston.
It was quite an eventful weekend. On the way over Thursday evening, I was able to drop off a Formula hood that I sold to a Forum member who lives right on the route on IH-10 we were traveling. And of course he shows up at the storage unit in his '71 TA. Nothing like door to door delivery for a big item like that. When we showed up in Florida we weren't sure what to expect. The previous owner had this car for 30 years. It was restored in '82 and taken off the road in '92. Communication with him was difficult at times, and he swore he would never sell her. But all was good afterall. He is the same individual I purchased the 4spd car from last year. He had owned the 4spd for 15 years, so there is something serendipitous that these cars are back together again On the way back, one of the catalytic converters in the GMC Sierra clogged (180K on the original exhaust), and the performance and gas mileage really dropped. We thought it through and decided to drill holes in both cats. This free'd up the exhaust air flow, and we were able to limp home. We spent today sorting the car out and verifying numbers. It looks like it's mostly there but will need rust repair in the usual locatins, a complete interior, and dozens of bits under the hood. The transmission is a '77 PC with an aqua tag. Attached are some pics from today. One pic shows the 4 holes in the hump for the 8 track bracket. THANK YOU Steve (RAFormulas) for the 8 track stand. That's a big boost to the interior. I'll start on this car this winter. The engine will go to Jim Robertson (from these Forums) to be rebuilt. He has the 4spd engine now, so I'll just swap out a nice fresh 455HO for a 'run hard and hung up wet one' when he's done!
