I cannot guarantee that the jack I posted about before is the original one. I have not had one in the car since 1978 when I put a nitrous bottle in the location where the spare tire sits. It is quite possible that mine was from a 68 Firebird that I purchased for parts in 1974.

Post # 14 is an excellent depiction of the 1964 jack system. In checking my notes and photos, the base is 6 in. square, with an "A" stamped in the largest of the recessed valleys. The jacking assembly was provided with a tang that fit into slotted holes at each end of the bumpers. The assembly had 'patent pending' and 'up' & 'down' on one surface, and an 'A' stamped into a second surface. Both the assembly and base were painted in a Rust Oleum shade of Royal Blue (the closest I could find to match). The lug wrench was 17 in. long, and painted a darker blue (can't find my paint note on this blue). The hold down J bolt was 5 9/16 in. long. The washer measured 1 3/8 in. OD, by 9/16 in. ID. The parallel flattened edges of the washer measured 9/16 in. and 7/8 in. long. The T post measured 35 in. long. The J bolt, wing nut, washer, and T post were all clear (silver) cadmium plated. The lug wrench was positioned within raised projections pressed into the trunk floor, separate from the jack/post assembly, below the tire, and atop the trunk mat. I am not aware of a second jack design for the 1964 GTO. Hope this will be of assistance.

Just found the note on the lug wrench paint color. The lug wrench was painted in a shade of Ditzler (Ditz-Lac) DAL 10246.

I think you mean DDL 10246. It may take a call to PPG to get a conversion on that color. No current formula on file.

Nope. It's DAL. This paint is 50 years old, so they may have to dive deep into their archives to find it.

PPG list there colors in numbers as you listed (10246) this number would be the same for all types of there paints in that formula, forever. The letter codes are for the type coating it is. If the number changes the color has been mapped to a close as possible match with a current formula. This leads to new base/clear colors that are not dead on the old formulas.Colors from the 60's have not been formulated in newer systems. They take a close as possible match theory. Through there color library.
DDL acrylic lacquer DAR acrylic enamel DCC acrylic urathane DBC base coat DAQ urathane DIA dye this is a short list. Some of these have been discontinued. But point is Lacquer has always been DDL example of 60's can of Lacquer http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ditzl...2#ht_500wt_877 example of current Lacquer http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/55-57...#ht_500wt_1102 |

Dld:
The DAL is a 'straight' lacquer, whereas the DDL is for 'acrylic' lacquers. Back in the day, the metalic lacquers were referred to as "Poly", which the DAL is listed as. I would think that an equivalent DDL code would suffice, as I would feel the color would be close, but then again.. Jon: The LeMans/Tempest jack assemblies are identical to the GTO (LeMans) assemblies. |

I would think so. GTO was an option on the Lemans. I've never heard of a GTO specific bumper jack.

OK guys
Judging from the pictures( thank you! ) there are some 64 LeMans jacks around. I need one. I've been dinged my last two car shows 'cause I didn't have a jack/base/handle (among other shortcomings). Does anybody have one they will sell? (Moderator - I already have a WTB post in the WTB section). It doesn't need to be in great shape; just in working condition that I can clean up and paint. regards

I was cleaning the trunk out of my low mileage 64 Lemans and found the jack was identical to the one shown in post 14. I also found and identical jack, except with the rectangle base as shown. The base was blue. Also found 2 other bases that have the A-B stamping, but those bases are black. Note that the blue base has a elongated hole at the leading edge, and the black base has a round hole. The more I know, the more complex this seems to get.

My KC Built GTO looks like the one from Post #28
More of a formed tube deal on the vertical stalk That being said, My KC jack slipped one time on the tube, bothered me a bunch, and I went to the "LeMans Jack" shown in Post #14 (with a clearly defined tooth rack set-up). Who knows where either jack is today in my parts as I use a floor jack for everything (and a lot better tires). Tom Vaught
