Buick and Olds had the Riviera and Toronado, respectively, although the '61-66 Starfire and '62 Wildcat could be considered competitors.
As far as I know, the Grand Prix - even in the "piggish" years - were on Catalina chassis. A lot of the GP styling found its way to the Grand Parisienne in Canada. |

Yep, that's the one. Couldn't remember who belonged to it. Beautiful car.

For VWmailman:
A couple more pics for you. I’ll post some more 68’s when I find them for your reference. I have them saved on some other drives, thumbs, etc. IIRC:This one looks like an old HPP Featured car ‘68 GP, below. Suggested - some inspection areas to look for rust: • Underside of doors • Perimeter of vinyl top trim – especially lower edges on ¼ panels • Inside edge of trunk lid (back side of key lock area, etc) • Rear window glass and trim • Base of windshield • Rear wheel well radius (take a closer look @ the side view of the black GP, that is rust bubbling above the center of the fender skirt) • Fender Skirt mounting areas - take them off and put them back on Keep us posted. Hey Wheelspin: Sweet looking GP! Is this the same one posted on your signature? Quote:

I would think the subject car you are talking about is somewhere around $8K to $12K depending on actual condition. Good Luck! N2 |

Thanks man. Yeah, it's the same one in my signature. That's a pic of my GP running rounds @ the now closed LACR. My GP was also in one of the HPP Shootouts held @ a Pontiac Heaven event a few years ago. It ran a da adjusted 13.54 @ 101 mph weighing 4600#, and we drove it to Phoenix and back to SoCal after the event.

Alvin,
The alternator on the black car, is something I don't recognize. Do you remember what it is??? Just curious.

I have run into a few 68 Cats with the GP front bumper and grill. When I was @ Norwalk in 08, I met the original owner of the 4-speed, 4:11 geared, Verdoro Green 68GP that was featured in HPP a couple of years ago. The blacked out grille is interesting and memorable. After all those years of driving his GP with the 4:11s he had recently re geared it to the mid threes in order to save a little fuel. There was also a 68GP 10 sec race car in the pits that I never saw run, and two 68 GP projects for sale.

IIRC: The Black GP was a original 400 4bbl. Posted for VWmailman to compare what he goes to look at.. Les & others who know or own a 68 GP could advise better than me if something is incorrect... |

wheelspin, what kind of seat-of-the-pants feel do you get out of such a big car with 2.93s and a 2200 stall?
I know you're not looking for best quarter mile with it but I'm curious since my GTO is geared similarly and I've not had a chance to drive it.

Weight and gearing...
Hi Greg,
My driving experience may not mirror yours since the GP's motor is mildly modified with 240 cfm heads, 224* @ .050 sp ft cam that provides around .550 lift with 1:65 Comp roller lifters, Doug's headers & a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust system, and a Cliff's Q-jet carb on the RA 4 ported stock iron intake. It moves out strongly from any speed and it chirps the 225 Cooper Trendsetters on both up shifts @ full throttle. When I race it, I have to soft pedal it out of the hole until the narrow tires get traction and then lay into it. Where it shines is in the grand touring mode where it has plenty of torque to flatten the Rockies when we take our cross country trips. I had dual quads on it for a few years which gave me two more mph in the quarter mile, but lowered the mpg. I raced my 3960# 66 GTO with 3:08 final gearing down to 12.6 in the quarter mile, but it does have a 700R4 trans with the 3:06 low gear. I think that Pontiacs' significant torque advantage allows using tall rear end gears for improved mpg and still delivering impressive performance. My 4100# 72 Trans Am clone has 2:73 rear gears, a 500hp 462 engine, T-400, and it knocks down 15 mpg @ 75 mph .
