Awesome score. Those rubber bumpered wagons are really special cars. I wish there were more of them to go around for some of us others. Keep us posted and keep the Pontiac faith. Looks like a nice stable there with the bird also. Mike

Well I started on her yesterday while I'm waiting on parts to arrive. I got the welder and the cutting wheel out and started on the bonnet.
I'm using a B boby bonnet for all the replacement metal, so she's all Pontiac.

You are a brave and talented man. Wish I had that gift and was brave enough to do that. Gonna be a good looking rig. Hope you don't get any grief for the word "bonnet". LOL....Will enjoy pics of the progress.

More stuff done yesterday, installed left hand drive head lights, and today......Tail gate welded up. Now playing with my stud welder and dent puller.
I haven't shown the other stuff, like wire wheeling the rust, applying Fertan and painting both surfaces, but you get the idea.

I think that was the case many years ago,the system has changed,I am safe in saying all the states are the same as you must have an import approval from Australian customs.. They changed the rules and made it easy for us classic car enthusiasts ,but they did stop the high powered ricers ,the twin turbo's and the like.. I have not seen a "left hand drive "sticker on the rear of a car since they stopped the "disabled driver " stickers Cool wagon, looking forward to the restoration John

You're right you've always needed a Import Approval (since 1998) IIRC.
But as for WA registration I'm going off: Government of Western Australia, Department of Transport IB-106B Vehicle Safety and Standards Information Bulletin Special Provisions for Light Left Hand Drive Vehicles Older than 15, but less than 30 years Vehicles not exceeding 4.5 tonnes GVM It's the last revision on the Government website.

Sweet! I love seeing step by step stuff like this....makes me want to try this stuff on my own too! What is Fertan? When you say painting both surfaces...do you mean the back side of the filler piece? Or the backside of the inside piece?

Fertan is a rust converter,I spray it on and let it dry, then wipe off the excess and paint both inside surfaces with chassis black.

I had to work last week, so was away from home, till the weekend.
On Saturday I changed out the Harmonic Balancer, which was wobbling like crazy, and that also fixed the squealing belts. Then I started cutting out the tyre well, which is the rustiest part of the wagon. Mmmmmm aluminum siding...... The holes are getting bigger. I got an email from my parts supplier, he says he can't get me rear guards for at least 8 - 12 weeks, so I'm going to have to wait. I don't want to cut out to much more at than I already have, I'll just repair what I can and wait. I took the car for a drive the weekend before last, and had problems shifting into 3rd. I started pulling the steering column yesterday for a rebuild, and found a strange switch under the dash connected to the electric kick down wire. Seems like a cut out to stop the Trans from shifting down. Maybe the Trans is not cactus after all.

On Tuesday I did a little more on the Lemans to get it road worthy. I can keep the red lenses but I can not have the Brake Light and the Indicator running of the same globe. So I've separated the indicator light and relocated it to another position.
Sorry you may have to look at these from the side, I tried to rotate, but it wouldn't upload. I had to drill a couple of holes for the globe bucket to sit correctly, but only on left hand side, there's some major bracing there for the tail gate. I double covered the indicator wire to protect it from chaffing. Here we are the left hand side... and the Right hand side. and short vid of the lights working.

was there a reason you changed the gauges other than just for a different look???

I originally wanted to run a hood tach, but new state laws prohibit extrusions (namely Blowers and those stupid external gauge clusters) through the hood unless factory installed. Something about reducing forward vision and reducing damage to Pedestrians. So all the gauges will be inside. Hope to get the gauge panel this week. I'll post photos when I get back from my job maybe next week.

Sorry the photo is a bit small, my internet connection is very eratic and prone to shutting down.....hence the small size.
Here's my Carbon Fibre dash with So-Cal gauges I'm working on. I hope to have better pics soon.
