Another Q here....
does the hydraboost make your wheels "lock up" easier compared to the power brakes?

I suppose you could state that, but in reality it's all up to your foot. Stated correctly, "it stops the car as fast as I want to". You simply won't believe the feeling of control.

Locking them up is not good for stopping fast or control. Whichever wheel locks up first leads the car. In the days before ABS we learned not to do that.

Something I have not yet seen addressed here is the FEEL of the brakes with hydro boost. The systems I have driven are limited to later model 3/4 ton gm trucks and burbans and a ton of bmw 850i. ( I am a bmw mechanic)

I do not care for the feel of hydro boost at all. It feels like abs operation at a much higher frequency though than abs. Like a pulsing sensation in the pedal. I have always assumed it was hydraulic "noise" from the pump. Even my 67yo mom can pick it out in her 02 2500 suburban and complains about her brakes "feel weird". She is hardly a late braking and over taking road racer either. They feel vague or I would even call it brake pedal pollution.

Also the honda can get away with small brakes because it has small wheels and tires and is a small light weight car. You don't need huge brakes on a little car. The Vette has massive brakes and massive tires. It is apples and oranges as far as stopping goes however I still think you would be closer with a vacuum booster as far as FEEL goes. If you are stuck with your 15's (cough cough old timer tires cough cough) at least get some wide rubber up front to get as much braking traction as you can get.

If you had not mentioned the Vette and the honda I wouldn't feel so compelled to warn you having driven many c5 and c6 vettes and Japanese cars and being pleased and confident with the brakes in them as well.

I have both of my vehicles equipped with hydroboost brake systems. My other car is a 05 Tahoe with 4 wheel disks, which came factory equipped as such.

I have noticed that sensation you speak of in it, but not on my 67 GTO. I attributed that to the ABS system it has. I would love to be able to shut off the ABS system to tell the difference, but cannot figure out how to short of disabling/removing the sensors from the wheels.

All in all it boils down to the fact that the GTO now "stops as well as it goes". I would never go back to vacuum boost brakes.

Your quote from Pirelli sums it up for me, I like that.

As long as can remember all hydroboost systems always had that funky feeling in the brake pedal, especially when you pump the brake and you are not moving. I'm talking about the 70's Lincolns, Eldos and the larger trucks. When it comes to the 2500 suburbans, as far as I'm concerned they're underbraked, they could use bigger hardware for sure.

As for 77Handmedown, I will go to bigger wheels when someone make raised white letters for them. To me RWL's pretty up the car. That's the way these cars came from factory. Old school? Maybe. But also period correct. That's why they make (cough, cough) vanilla and chocolate.

i certainly would be
any chance you can do your own before/after brake tests
like the distance stopping from x-mph?

i'm working on the funding so i can do this to my TA, i think it will really benefit.

I forgot about this thread Don 79 TA, I did have some info, but have no idea where it is now, but the results were excellent, as I just posted in another thread I say do it, best bang for buck by far!
