I think for a street car they are a great compromise less tore shredding bottom end than a 455 but more than a 400.
Years ago Greg Merrick gave me a ride in their 70 LeMans. It's a RA IV headed roller cammed 428 and it was something else. A great combination.

I've got some Pontiac journal 6.8 Crowers from Paul Spotts a few years ago for the connectors on it. Going to be a heck of a dish for the 69cc chambers to run pump gas though!

I'm planning one for the GTO as I think it will be a good match with the Richmond 4+1. The lack of choices in the 4" crank category is not a good sign however.

Singleton, thanks for the info regarding the RPM forgings. Anyone else??

RPM site lists a 4340 forged 4" stroke, 3.25 main, (with 2.20 rod journal), on sale for $429.99, (40% off).

The 3"main version is regular price, $720

Mine will go in the 65 GTO with a "race" straight gear Richmond 5 speed behind it also.

I'll be building or having built, a 4" 400 for my street/auto X car. I want to be able to run mid 11s, drive anywhere, and ring out the mill on straightaway but not have so much tq that I'm busting loose after turns. The 4" crank seems like the best choice for power/RPM comprimise.

Yep a 455 with any tweaking and goose it in the turns and you get some bad oversteer no matter what the tires are even sticky DOTs

I have been running the 4" stroke engines for years. I have tried 3.75,4.00.4.21.4.25 strokes in stock blocks.
Currently have a 4.050 stroke with a 4.180 Bore--in my experience this is the best combo to date I have run. Consistently revs 7200-7500, and has made enough power to push a 3800lb street car to 10.0xx et's with Carter AFB'S and 335CFM E-heads.
