Thanks, I will hook up the mechanical gauge to that over the weekend.

So a quick question, I am adding an additional mechanical oil pressure gauge. I am planning on using the port next to the distributor, will this give me a more accurate reading instead of using the oil filter housing port?
Thanks Dirk

It's a more comprehensive look at oil pressure, especially when you use both. You can see differential pressure, as the housing location is before the filter, the port near the distributor is post filter, mains, rods, and at least one bank of lifters. ( Maybe both? I can't remember)

Pressure is also a result of the internal clearances.

Same thing I alluded to in post 13: https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...2&postcount=13

But,
If you have 100 PSI at the filter, but only 30 PSI at the engine, not good.

So, this weekend I changed the oil to a 5w 20, back to the Wix 51042XP oil filter and only attached the oil pressure gauge tester I bought and mounter the gauge in the car.
Oil: 5w 20 Oil Filter: Wix 51042XP Mechanical Pressure Gauge - reads to 100 PSI Oil PSI at Idle: 45 to 50 Oil PSI while driving in 3rd gear: 80 Oil PSI at Idle after a drive sitting in driveway: 30

So I visited the shop today and discussed the issue. They have no issues with the 30 to 35 psi at idle and operating temperature. And he said with a high pressure pump he also has no problem with the 80 to 85 psi while driving. He suggested driving it a few hundred miles and see if the psi changes or stays the same, he would be more concerned if the psi was too low rather than high.
He also said if I don't feel comfortable, to pull the engine and bring it to them and they will replace the pump. Or I could try to raise the motor enough to drop the oil pan while the engine is still in the car, but I don't think there is enough room.

I drove over to the other shop that has done some work on the car. Told them what has happened over the last 3 weeks. After driving the car for about 20 minutes, the car idled steady at 22 psi and was between 60 and 80 psi while driving.
The second shop, who is very familiar with the car, said it was fine and to keep driving it.

Have to agree with the second shop, at least at this point in time.
