The muffler would have 73 noted on the driver side rear under the gm part number and the inlet pipes should be welded to the muffler from the factory. Outlets where clamped.
July built car I would have thought it would sport them but you know those GM vendors, anything was possible.
The resonators and mufflers where the first to rust out on these systems thus where condensation would accumulate. Maybe that was a good thing for your car?
I do have two nos sd exhaust systems including 74 date coded mufflers. I know of only one other system besides mine on this planet. Rare stuff indeed!

Enrico is a hoot! That was one of the first "exam questions" he asked me, in order to verify whether the car was intact. -"Is there anything odd about the chrome exhaust tips?" I told him that they were pointed outwards too far and one was hitting the rear quarter edge...he said: "Good, nobody has messed with them since I adjusted them the day it was delivered. They were pointed way too far in, toward each other when it was delivered and I hated that look, so I bent them outward."

He also confirmed that it never had resonators and was always a pretty loud car. (and still is).

Thumbs up

John: Will post pics as soon as I figure out how to post them from the pictures file into the Forum. You know, newbee stuff. Transam1972, the outside is close in that it has the small bird on the nose. The interior is white. The car is a bear to get cleaned up, but when it is, it looks pretty sharp. Its has an automatic, major options: a/c, am/fm stereo, 8 track, p/w, custom interior, tilt. I purchased it from the original owner, an IBM executive in 1987. At the time, it had 35k miles, an unrestored original. Over the years I have added about 18k miles, and have been able to keep her mostly original, belts, hoses, etc. Up to three months ago, the car has had its original 40 year old exhaust system, including the resonators(atenuators). The over-the-axle pipes have turned to swiss cheese over the last several years, so I am in the middle of changing out the system from there back. There is a picture posted of my car already, if you check through NJSteve's post on his SD Formula, he attended a local cruise in last September. I cruised over with him that evening and parked next to his car.

Why this car needed a roller cam upgrade at 31K miles is beyond me, probably when the high rise and holley were installed. For the real money the ac should work, and the cam and engine should be untouched at these miles..and put the right wheels on. Maybe he didnt want people seeing the GR70-15 White Wall tires? Air cleaner fresh air ducting is MIA...Custom exhaust?? might be fine for a contender...this is an investment piece, or was . Its nice and all, but NOT the bag of chips too.
