So Glenn and I are here at Norwalk and Glenn is just tearing them up! With a different combo on his second pass he runs a 8.01 with a .007 light, talk about knowing how to tune his blower motor!!
He's my Hero!

Water grains were very high, I changed timing (added 2 degrees, went against wisdom of the "committee" and went richer, and added air (lot more blower) and got lucky.

Got back to the pits and water was dripping from the rear corner of the right head. Long story short (and several hours) the head bolt was bottoming out. Added a second head bolt washer and it clamp tight. Thought I should do that to the rest of the bolts (should have left it alone) and pulled the threads out of the block on another bolt.

Was lucky enough to have a set of cap studs with me, Threaded one in till it bottomed out and torqued the nut and that worked. So....it is bandaided together so we can try again tomorrow,

Now I have more work to do when I get home.

Even with studs I dont think your supposed to bottom them out.

I'm thinking in a last chance effort to get a fastener installed he bottomed it out to get every possible thread left in the hole...and it seems to have worked.

I hope it holds and good luck in eliminations!

Pontiac to the front!

It reads headbolt too long not actually clamping head.. you can get torque reading because it's a bolt.
A stud can be bottmed thumb/finger light and work fine. They shouldn't be torqued in threads. When you put washer under nut and torque the stud. Gets pulled up against threads and it's enough to get stud unloaded off bottom. Of course when you loosen nut the stud often wants to come up too. If you want stud tight enough to not do that you but a steel ball under stud so outer edge of stud bottom doesnt stress the holes bottom edge. I prefer blue loctite and just back stud off half turn or so from bottom.

That is the thought right now so long as it does not interfere with NDRL series or I am so far out of the points it would make no difference.

Great looking engine Glen. What kind/size of blower is on it. What did you think of the IA2 aluminum block ? Fit, finish ect ?

The blower is a standard helix anodized stripped 8-71 Litllefield. The block was an All Pontiac block with keyed mains and splayed bolts. The engine builder liked it VERY much. High quality casting. The fixture for drilling the holes for the crank support was no good though, had to do it the hard way

Are you running ally? If you are keep your timing under 28 degrees and it shouldn't take more then 12-13 lbs of boost.......you'll be fine!
I don't know if you have them but 2 1/4" zoomies will help.
