This is a different buddies 72 TA. This is what a 100,000 mile 72HO looks like in Alaska.
Guard rails, rust, hotrodded, Hammered. Anyway,we may be proven wrong about the mileage. Sky only has a bill of sale last time a spoke to him. I’m not sure he has a title yet. So the title will be the final decider on the mileage as it will only state the last titled mileage or unknown. My 73 TA I bought from the estate of the original owner, and since the title has never changed hands since new, it listed the mileage as “0”. In reality it has 30,000+ miles, which I stated when I changed it over to my name. Last edited by AkCamaro; 09-29-2018 at 06:20 PM. |

Note, this car has the STAINLESS rear view mirror, like 99% did that were built in 1971. Just put a new mirror Glass in the stainless one for my old '72 Formula that a member here owns now.
Clear capsule with plastic valence was 2nd style light. Pontiac made a metal valence for these capsules because they could not go back to the old metal valence as the capsules required the new style light harness. Very cool car. Hope it stays dry. Lots of Mold and moisture in southwest AK. Thanks for posting the pics and sharing this great "find-"save" |

My 72 Formula has a clear plastic parking lights and had traces of plastic valence. Yet had a metal valence on car when I bought it. Think there was only one style of metal valence for 70-71. 72 had plastic ones that broke and was replaceable with a metal one with parking lights that fit in fiberglass insets like 70-71. Maybe the stainless back mirror was up per cowl tag (11/71) with speedo like 70-71 that had only brake light...My cowl tag reads 12/71 72 Formula has black mirror and non functioning seat belt warning light.

I have found that there was metal Valences made and plenty found as NOS parts units that only fit the capsule and Not the 69-early 72 style metal housings.
Are your clear "lenses" the older style or the new "capsule style" ? If Capsule style your front wiring harness is much different as it has a Bulb holder in it, where the older has a connector only to the back of the metal housing. November, and into Dec was a when those changes occurred, Mirror and front harness and lights , Valences. I do know that last week DEC '71 had the new harness with socket and Clear Capsule. Still had old school Brake light only as well. Its interesting that 3 different front Parking/ turn lights were made in the '72 model year. I should get some lights and try fitments again. I have done this in past but do not have pics. |

fwiw - you're supposed to be able to use either type valance with either type light.
PMD even sold a conversion hardware kit to install plastic housing lights into metal valances for the retrofit. You also had to buy the filler surrounds when going to metal valance. Been a Long Time - but iirc on the metal valance - the lamp mounting screws are longer. And "maybe" there is also a plastic insert needed that the mounting screws thread into - on a metal valance. Plastic valance used metal U-Clips for mounting screws. Bruce is right on the wiring harness difference between them. You just need to stay with correct lamp. I never knew there was also a Clear Plastic Lamp - good to know. Had thought all plastic valance cars came with Amber Plastic Lamps. |

Sky is looking for a passenger side clear seat belt clip, since the one in the car is broken, if anyone has a spare.

BTW: Sky is a great name. Is that a nickname or birth? Got to get him to join the forum.

Great pictures Sky! Thank you so much. That answers a couple questions I've had for a long time. Fist time I have seen an untouched folded heat riser shield on an early build 72 "F" body. The late 72's are stamped as shown. Obviously, your is original. Thanks again.
You''re a lucky dog! Congrats on the fantastic score! |

Late to the party fellas but glad I made it; what a neat car! In for the rest of the story. My first Pontiac was an Adriatic Blue with painted Cameo White top 71 LeMans. What a great color combo.
