thanks for the help, I read the comp manual again and thought i was doing it correct. Time to try again, you want me to adjust to zero and then give it 1/2 turn more?

Yeah, with zero being absolutely no load on the lifter. Once you get the hang of only taking up the slop, you can do them pretty quickly. It's a good idea to take a black marker and make a mark on each one as you complete it. Then it's easy to double check and make sure you didn't forget any.

I'm sure the problem is valve adj. Do what lust4speed said and you'll be OK.

Yup, Exhaust starts to open - adj intake

Intake almost closed - adj the exhaust

Best way to ensure you're on the base of the lobe...

I adjusted the right side exactly like the post above and same thing, rough idle missing on #4. Backed off to zero lash and runs fine. Guess this tells me something.

It sounds like you have a solid lifter there. Or you are bottoming out the lifter and calling that zero, but I think you know better than that. I would pull that lifter apart and look inside it to see what's up. I wonder if a solid lifter got boxed with hydraulic ones. I guess I've seen weirder things.

As modoki said check & make sure the coil is hooked up correctly. I have a friend who hooded his up backwards & had similar problems with his car until we all got together & everyone took seprate looks at everything 1 at a time & the coil was wired backwards. After it was hooked up the right way for about 5 min's it ran bad but finialy started to run better after it started to clear itself out a bit. But it was just one of those things that took all to look at to find & fix.

The car runs great now with #4 intake lifter set at zero lash. I will be pulling that lifter and sending it back to comp cams. These are comp hyd rollers so with the walking bar pinned in you cant take them apart. The parts are still under warranty. I will report back the results and thanks to everyone that helped me.
