This makes me remember one Christmas...my wife bought me a fairly expensive Seiko watch with roman numerals. It was nice but went as follows:

I II III IIII V VI ect.

That's funny right there.... It must be something about Column shift TA owners.

When I purchased my '72 Lucy TA with Column shift, console delete and 8 track with std tuxedo interior, the seller was very difficult to talk to. A very nice guy but he was high most of the time we talked. And to make things worse, he was absolutely convinced the TA he was selling was the only one ever built with column shift.

I just hope when I retire I can exist in a similar state of mind.. .LOL

Is there a thread tracking the column shift '70~'73 TA's? If not, that would be a good one to start. I've documented less than 10 so far, including the subject thread.

I had a 73 Buc red T/a with a column shift about 08 or 09. Body was so far gone I could put my arm in ahead of the rear tire and pat the rear seat. That was the good part.

In the mid 80's, there was a white with red guts column shift RAIII '70 T/A within 2 miles of the Will Rogers Airport in OKC. The mid 20's fellow that owned it was toying with performing outlandish body mods to it. Can remember conversing with him and suggesting he left it alone.. If it had been a 4spd, would have most likely kept in touch w him til he sold it to me.

I like the old skool vibe on it! I would just clean it up and throw some vintage polyglas tires on it to give it the complete look! I like it!

Had a column shift 72 Formula 400. Buy a column car with open eyes. Only 1 in 50 people will buy it over a floor shift equivalent. It is the ultimate Very Very Rare Non Option that has no increased value over all the vastly less rare ones. Having said that I didn't mind mine, the open tunnel was cool, but the only thing more Anti Cool Car Mojo would be if a bench seat would have been available also (poor Goat guys).

I suspect many people have converted their column shift cars to floor shift. I sold a guy parts to convert a burgundy 73 Formula 400 from automatic column shift to a 4-spd with console.

I believe I was told the original owner of my car argued with the dealership and wanted them to pay to convert it over. Had he not already put down his deposit, I suspect he would have walked away from the deal.

I know of a 69 RA IV Bird with one - deluxe interior w/a 4spd too.

No idea on TA's.

Default transmission hump

I always liked the 4 speed no console look (featured in the 1970 T/A ad by PONTIAC)..BUT IT PREVENTED YOU FROM GETTING POWER WINDOWS, and that was a bad sales plan..however the all carpet and nothing look is a bit too much..in reality I do believe the console and how it was designed to compliment the dash was a nice addition...and add a rear console and you have a nice loaded out interior...but plan on getting a room on date nite

Many years ago there was a RAIV '69 Trans Am here in the Northwest that was a bucket seat column shift build. It was then owned by John Friend. He lost most if not all his collection, so not sure where this TA is today. I'm betting Matt M. knows where it is though.

I saw a 69 bird with the bench seat & column shift sitting in a gas station back in 71-72 . It looked a little funny but the guy with me said he thought it was cool. Also I want to know what a IIV engine is suppose to be. Is it a Ram Air 2 or did he mean a Ram Air III.??
