Here, now they're by each other, happy? My son and I play ball there, but when the ball goes up, the doors go down!

I was thinking the same thing! Who knows, maybe those two corvettes being next to each other will lead to little Opels or something

Hey, I just looked at the rest of the pics on the garage build. I see now what you did. pretty clever. Right bay has high ceiling and garage door for service lift space. Pretty sneaky!

& here I was thinking they should be facing out - like the Batmobile!

Love your garage!

Pontiacrazy. Bring that badass funny car to Thunder Valley in Marion and give us loyal Pontiac fans a car to cheer for over here on the east coast of South Dakota!

What are the dimensions of that? I'm looking to build a 26x40 with an upstairs to it.

When I built my garage I built it 28X32 ^ thought it would be enough, more then enough. But after I got all my junk in it & the cars it got real small. I know know that no matter how much or how big you build it will never be enough. A 26 X 40 is a good size but if you have tools & a couple of cars you'll run out of room real fast. I'd say if you can build bigger by having room & money to do so,,, DO IT. My tools & 2 cars & all the other stuff in the garage I could go at least 1/2 again as big & be ok with it. What ever you think you need go at least 1/2 or 3/4's bigger to have enough room for what you thought you needed.

The home shop started at 36x60. Added a 1000 sq/ft of mezzanine. Adding 1000 sq/ft of outside covered storage this month. Plans to close in the shop porch and add a 25x30 attached garage to the house. I'll stop breathing before it ends --

Same here - 36x60 with 900+ ft of open storage upstairs & I've had it filled multiple times. My advice is to build what you are comfortable with - bigger is a nice idea but it becomes overwhelming as the stuff is easy to accumulate & hard to get rid of!

I'm only allowed to build a detached garage 50% of the living space of the home. The house is 2100 sf.

For me it was just luck when I built my garage. I went in with a flat drawing of what I was going to build & just said how much for the building permit. She looked at the drawing & asked how much it was going to cost to build it , I gave her the price, & while she figured it up I was writing the check for the permit. When she told me the price I filled in the amount & handed it to her, she stamped it paid & gave me the permit & the other paper work for the new build. On the permit it said that I was building or rather then rebuilding it as I had torn the old garage down just a few weeks ago. I used the outer most edge of the old garage for the edge of the foundation & it was built. I don't know if they ever looked at it before during or after but I now have a garage that is 28X32 which is only 1 foot on the property line on the side & 2 feet on the back of the line. With my pool & the house & the garage I now have about 70% building on my property. It only takes me about 1/2 hour to mow my back yard. Before I built I called the city & asked what the limits were & how far from the house before it had to be attached to the house. I was told 13 feet & closer the garage then had to be attached to the house. My garage is 13 feet 1/2 inch from the house. During the build the guy next door tried to complain about the build being to big. The city just told him they approved it & it could be built. He was also complaining about it being an eyesore because it was to big. But what he forgot was a new garage is much nicer then an old run down garage , & the city told him to live with it. I still think they never came out to look at it EVER. Or they might have had a different opinion of it then. I did go round & round with the city electrical inspector for the electrical but thats another story. I still need a bigger garage though.

Here's mine - just a 36 by 26. I have an old barn too but it has a gravel floor so I just use it for cold storage of tractor, lawn equipment etc.

Default Insulate or No insulation?

I just finished a 24 X 40 pole barn. It is in the city limits in Central IN. THe zoning board made me put a shingle roof and vinyle siding on it. It does have a 6" concrete floor that has a vapor barrier down. I do not plan to heat this garage so my question is: Does it need to be insulated? I have heard that if you insulate a unheated space that it could cause condensation, which would be bad. What has work for you guys. I will add pictures this weekend. I will be bringing one of my Pontiacs home this weekend from my brothers pole barn in Northern IN.

BTW: Condensation happens when humidity is high whether it's insulated or not.

Humidity control by AC or dehumidification...
