68, mine did have the ratchet shifter.
Alvin I'm not saying you're wrong, I can only tell you what I saw back then. My Y88 was a fairly early model and had the black light panel. |

I agree 100%. I know it's been discussed before and elsewhere that certain cars were supposed to come with them, but after all this time and no specific code referencing them, I believe it was very much hit or miss on some of the later years. My '77 base 400 didn't have it, my '79 403 SE did, my '75 400 didn't, another '79 403 car had it, and a '80 turbo car did too.

FWIW - my '78 W72 Auto had the factory "slap shift" "ratchet" shifter. IIRC - the black plastic slider panel @ the base of the shift tube was an oval cutout to allow it to move & pivot left-to-right. My then other (daily driver) '78 400 TA's Auto shifter was a non-ratchet version. |

I learned about the shifters about 10 years ago. My L78 never had one, but neither does my W72 & I thought it was suppose to be included with the package. I never knew they came with the std 400's My 1980 indy pace car has one.

Here's what looks to be a nice one on eBay. Pictures have everything to be desired. but still cool.

I heard they came on WS6 cars. Last year at the Natz in Ohio, we were packing up to leave and a guy gave me one in the swap, you see them at the swaps and people don't know they are the ratchet type, I just saw one at the GM tech center swap for $25. Lol

BTW, is there a better invested $151.00 on a Y88 car out there. It still blows me away how cheap those options were in 1978. Crazy.

Here are a couple of pics of the 17058266 carb for my Y88. Took it apart and boiled it out then put it together. After it was together, I decided to color the carb and plate everything so it looked good again. Back apart it came and I sent all the pieces out. Have now got it back together again for the most part. Need a new front vacuum break to complete the look. Carb looks great, it should work as well as it looks!

The color of the carb body in my pictures is off. It does not look gray like that in reality. The pics really don't even do it justice. Looks too good to put on a car, may have to put it in a display case!

Its BAAAaaaaaack. Running auction again. Last time bought 22K. I don't think 22K is that far off the mark. I know there have been some that sold close to 30K in some rare instances, but I think 40K is a dream number. For some reason the wheels look a little light in color, but its probably just the camera angles. Same thing with the color of the left quarter against the trunk lid.
No seat belt buckle dings in the seat backs, so I am guessing those have been restored. Nice looking car, I wish there were picts of the underside. Those are the pictures I am always interested with on survivor cars. Hard to duplicate an untouched underside IMO. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...E:B:SS:US:1123
