The SR with 96 heads is a nice rarity. I would be very happy with it. Especially if it is a correct 4bolt block and has a correct casting part number back near the bellhousing mounting area.

The SR+number is usually not the VIN nor a part of the partial VIN. But there is always a chance for luck.

You should get the PHS (Billing History Card) on your April 68 built GTO. If it is a 347 Ram Air optioned GTO, it will be a Ram1 car - by that build date.

The B.H.Card (PHS) for "most" 1968 GTO's has a box listing both the Engine Unit Number and Trans Unit Number. In a car with it's original born engine, that same EUN will be stamped above or below the block code (XS, WY, etc...) about a 6 or 7 digit number.

The EUN does not mirror the VIN - they are different numbers completely.

Svante, you also need to verify if your #96 heads are 1968 roundport RamII -or- #96 from 1971 with D-ports. Just thought I should mention that.

I wasn't able to view the second link you posted showing your restoration. It made my computer freeze and had to shut it off. Probably only a coincidence - It just does that sometimes. I may try to view it again.

No problem viewing your resto pix this time. Fine job being done !

Those are definitely Round Port RamII heads.

Default GTO Forever

Thanks for that 68 Addict. Have in mind under the conditions we guys in Sweden have, we have to import most of our parts, new and old from your country, that follows with extra cost as freight toll and our horrible tax of 25% on all cost. So it takes more time to complete a resto. However it`s wurth all waiting, beacuse you forget all the hard times when you sit down for the first time in your newresto PONTIAC GTO and rurn the key.KEEP COOOL guys.

Would need more information about what you got for $7700 to know how good of a deal that was. But it sounds like you did really good considering you found it in Sweden.

Was it already fresh rebuilt when you bought it.
Was it bored .030, .040, .060 or still Standard bore.
Were the exhaust headers included.
Did you get a Ram Air Qjet carburetor with the engine ?
-------------------------------------------------

Block casting number should be 9792506, so I think that is what you have.

82141 is probably not part of the VIN. Most all SR's seem to have a stamped ID number beginning with "8".

A229 on the heads is a date code. January 22, 1969. That would make them SR heads also.

I'm not sure what number "V-pump 8983" is for.

9799068 Intake is a standard 1970 cast iron unit. Used on base model 4bbl and up to RamIII. The RamIV Intake is made of aluminum.

The Ram Air II engines came factory with a cast iron Intake. You "might" want to try to find a 1968 Intake -dated two weeks through six weeks- before your cars build date. It won't increase or decrease performance - just be more correct.

Anyone in the USA or Sweden would be very very satisfied with a complete SR RamII in their 68 GTO.

Default SR engine

HI Baron, The engine is a fresh rebuilt with the very best i was told,we opened it to check and it was so. It`s bored 030, no exhaust heads was included, they wasnt the right ones, carburator is the right one redone by Custom Rebuilt Carb in Middlesex NY. When i come to Carlyle i will search for the right intake and exhaust headers. All Interior is done ready to be installed, been waiting to get paint on the car for 4 weeks now, eager to start the reassembling of the Gto. This is really a good Forum been looking around and found a lot of Info on different issues in the reassembling. Thanks everybody. Svante 400.
