For what it's worth...

There were two styles of brake boosters in 1961, I'm having brain fade and don't remember the two brands...Delco and something else. Anyway, one of them was painted black, the other was cad plated. If you have a factory shop manual it shows the two different styles.

Yes - Bendix and Delco-Moraine in 61. Shop manual looks like the Bendix were painted black (probably a semi-gloss) and the Delco may have been some version of cad plated.

Update.....and bump....
For some strange reason.....I can't sign in as 2ManyT/A's......so I am now the Green Hornet It's been almost two years since I started moving.........and it's really amazing how much stuff one can accumulate in 32 years... Still in the process of building shelving......and putting parts etc away.......but the large barn I occupy now is bigger than the city lot I just moved from.....so ALL is GOOD. Time to start working on the Bonneville... Anything new relative to availability of correct original seat covers? Going to see my local upholstery guy next week to discuss my options... Also time to make a steering wheel decision.... I recall reading that the recasts from Quality?.......do NOT have color tinted clear sections..... Do the other people doing this work offer a tint? Any input is appreciated. |

D&D in North Carolina does offer the tinting. I've never used them however I have talked to them and have seen thier product. Their wheels looked very nice, they were about the same price as Quality Restorations (1500 dollars) but thier turn around time was longer. I just had Quality do one for my 61 and it took 3 months, D&D told me 6 months and I've heard it takes longer. Best to find a core to send them so you can use your car while they recast your wheel

Can't be rusty , no pits, otherwise I don't think the condition matters

There are other places that do steering wheel restorations, in Hemmings under services offered, however you won’t save too much money, maybe about $500 from Quality. The work Dennis does is top notch but not really worth it in my case. I still have not found any interior for this car, mine actually has a complete Impala interior in it now. There are factory photos of these cars’ interiors, maybe a custom upholstery shop could match it.
