On another note- two more possible unique items 1)OPH said on another recent thread that 70 had an odd length yoke on the driveshaft. 2)What about the vented gas cap? 70 only? |

The 1970 gas cap vented (49 state) version is NOT used on any other 2ndgen Firebird.
Neither is the 1970 (eec) California version. |

Anyone have a '70 vented gas cap to sell? I need one for my '70 T/A. Thanks!

With all of our lenghty list of '70 only parts, I don't recall seeing a mention of the '70 only quarter panels. Did I miss that one?

Transamric and CaptCrunch, just a followup to the small sway bar question. The build sheets broke the parts out into 2 digit codes for specific parts. What I had wondered about was do the small bar TAs have the Formula two character codes for what I had assumed were the sway bar portions of the build sheet, #17 "Stab Bar" and my guess for the rear sway bar, box #76 "Rear Control Arm" or did they have the TA codes on the sheet but still got the smaller bars?

I'm not sure it helps. I have sheets for TA's that have 3 different codes in #17, FT--,FD--, & FW--. If box #76 is for the rear sway bars, & I'm not sure it is, I see all the TA's show PC & all the Formulas have --PB. Checking a few '71 Build Sheets doesn't seem to help either. Slight different layout has one box for both bars, #21. Looks like FT--40 for Trans Ams.

I think I found one more thing, maybe two ? from the early built cars. The door sill plate / harness guard is much longer than standard, it extends all the way to the firewall. There is also an E-Brake cable cover where it goes out of the floor board.

I have seen these longer plates myself. Have a set.. I think they were left over from 69 or wre cross used from other Pontiac models when supplys of teh regular ones were short.. but yes, those were used. really doesn't matter which one you use though.. we are sort of splitting hairs when we start worrying about parts that wil never be seen and have no effect on performance...just my 2c

Don't 70 TA hoods have 2 square holes instead of 4 (71-76) on the underside front section?

No Steve, other way around. '70-72 hoods had two squarish holes in the bottom, leading edge. '73, or late '72, started the four hole design. Another obvious difference is the round vs. oval hole a bit further back & biased to the drivers side, than the other holes you mentioned. Early hoods have a round hole, the later style have an oval hole.

Steve.... did you just find out one of your Formulas has a later hood?? happened to me a couple years ago. hated it ...really thought,as we all do, that my car was all original only to find the hood had been replaced among other items.. original, usable 70-72 hoods can be hard to find. they have a habbit of rusting around the edges and/or at the mounting points.... good luck... |

Nope, sorry RAIII, but you need to go out & look at your TA or std. FB hoods again, like I just did. The oval &/or round hole I'm referring to is biased to the DRIVERS (left) side of the hood.

Nope... all my hoods are the original hoods.
