It may have been accidental tho - possibly taking code 1 - to be code I His daughter also works the orders now some too, we have been told. Possibly each of your requests were handled by a different person. ALL they have to go by when making the window stickers is the data from the BHC that you already had in hand. I thought perhaps you guys had worked with them more and sent them a picture of the trim tag and were able to cross code 53 to code I . |

Those color remnants you found are definitely the original color of the car.
Thats about all can tell you from pictures tho. Not Autumn Bronze for sure. Would have been the first Autumn Bronze GTO i had heard of , would have been pretty cool too . A couple of the 68 RamAir II Firebirds that have been documented were Autumn Bronze. |

I met the second owner today who owned the GTO from 1970 to 1978-9
He said the GTO is defiantly Green and rest of the PHS is correct. He's the one who had the graphics done on the car. He new everybody name who work on the car. It was great talking to him. He also told me the name of the person who bought it new. He is going to try to find some pictures and said may have some paper work for the car. He said he needed some time had some personal stuff going on. I will search for the original owner, hopefully I can find him. |

I found and talk to the original owner of the GTO. He order the GTO but did not now exactly the color he ordered. He said forest green. We talk for a little while. He only owned the car for a little over a year. He traded in a Corvette for the GTO. Also mention that Gm went on strike, so it took longer to get his car. He was a very nice guy, but how do I put this nicely. It was not easy to talk to him because he was not sharp with his memory.
So now I have talked to everybody who's owned the GTO. Very cool. |

I called PHS today and they did make a mistake on the window sticker. They thought the 1 was an I and put in the color as Autumn Bronze and should be a 1 special ordered paint.
So they are making me a new window sticker. I also asked about the paint colors. The special paint code 1 means that it can be any Pontiac color from 1968 and older. If it was a code 2 it would be any manufacture's color. They said to find a color chip that best matches the color I found. Like I found after I took down the head liner. They are great people. I ended up talking to them a few times. It was cool that he mention that the GTO was a very rare Car. |

Too bad the original owner wasn't able to help very much.
At least you found him and got to talk with him. How old do you think he is ? Some people want to stay as true as possible to the way a car was built. But that paint code gives you about any color you want it to be. As far as the color you found .... 65 GTO had a color about like that. |

If I had to guest he is 70 to 75. The plan with the car is to fix the stuff it needs to keep it on the road and have fun with it. I do not want to take it of the road for long periods of time. I bin do that road before. My brother always wanted to put the air brush back on it, but the templets got though away by accident. So I am hard at work with all the previous owners trying to find pictures. The second owner who had the air brush done. Told me the guys name and were he works today. So that is in the works. If we can do it, it will be done next winter. It needs a trans also, I am thinking a new Auto Gear trans for it. My brother saved a 400 out of a 68 GTO that GTOLIB sold him 25 years ago. Thinking of rebuilding it and butting it in next winter. The actual color- Hopefully paper work pops up (second owner said he might have some)or the first owner light bulb lights up and he remembers. The stripes were painted on but the dimensions are given in a few places. Can't remember where at the moment.

The car was dark green from the factory. I have pictures all the way back to original owner and history. The car was never blue, It special order paint color code 1. Code 53 it means something but nobody knows what it means not even PHS. Would love to know. Between my brother and me, we have owned this car for almost 35 years
