I'll come clean, the car was built "Limelight Green"(In my opinion)threw that in there for the lawyer in us all Bullet, with '69 Stripes. There is no way to prove the stripe, and there will soon be no way to prove the original color. That is when I get done with the alluminum oxide blasting of the interior....
Probably one of those one of one deals....but green.....DW

I still vote for charcoal grey or matador red.
70 Pallisaide Green was pretty close to 69 Limelight. Odd they went for an extra charge special when they are so close in appearance. There is always a reason - but rarely an explaination. Make it special - with style and taste. No to Iris Mist, and no to Carousel Red. |

Concur with Todd - no to Carousel Red and Iris Mist. Not so sure about Matador Red - same as Limelight - would be a nice-looking car, but, again, not very special IMO. Let us know what you end up with. Scott

I love the Limelight Green myself; would put it back to that color. Would be a nice contrast with the black interior too & set it apart from the more commonly seen colors out there... JMO

Dr Doug
If you still have an original panel and get it blasted, leave it out for a little rust and you will find out about the stripe. I've done that with a couple of Judges. |

Where can you get these stickers? By the way, notice a remnant of the original color in the lower right. If I can get a picture from 2 owners ago showing the '69 stripe, I'm going to repaint it the original color, it pains me, but it's the right thing to do....DW

There is a '70 Olds color that is similar that was available on Toronados. I think it was called Ming Jade, perhaps? Could be that color, which is quite nicer than the polarizing Limelight. And it would also be quite logical to be this color too.

Sand/strip down to metal from edge to about 6 inches back - in the area a 69 stripe, and the area a 70 eyebrow would be on the panel. Mist it with water a couple times a day until it starts rusting. Wait for ghost stripe to appear. So this Car was built in Arlington - or just has an Arlington door ? EDIT: I just reviewed the PHS from computer archive and answered my own question - it's an Arlington car. And VIN matches the door sticker also. I've been rusting a spot on the original drivers door. I had a friend stop by yesterday to look at the new '69 purchase, he wondered over and saw the spot on the '70 door. I asked him what he thought of my rust spot, he said it looked to him like he could see a ghost image of a stripe like the '69, and said "I thought they had different stripes in '70"...He's a '65 guy.
I have a few patients that know the guy that owned the car from atleast '75 to '95, they're going to try and track him down and give him my cell number. Hopefully he has an old picture or two of what the car looked like when he bought it. At this point I'm hoping(believe it or not) that it was infact Limelight Green with a '69 stripe. Finally got insurance squared away on the '69, and got to take it for a spin. Now I remember why I love Goats GGGRRRRRRRR! DW

You almost have the rust area too low on that door.
You would not have to let it rust so much, in fact the correct time is more like as the metal starts to turn dark from the blasting. I don't see it in this pic, but you may have it too low and let it rust too much. |

too low if it were on a '69, but if a '69 stripe were used on a '70 it would have to be placed just below the white streak of light you see in the picture, the angle where the top of the fender meets the side, on a '69 that area is much more rounded and the stripe is placed just beneath the mirror...DW

Fine Steve, I'll do it again. Your right you could see it better a week ago. It just looked like a pretty prominent horizontal line at the top of my bare metal area...DW

You could probably wet sound down to metal with something like 600 and get the same effect, I know I've done that with the ramair on the hood before. It doesn't take long to find it after you get the metal.
I would test it on a peice that you know it will be there, like the decklid of a regular 70 GTO. That way you know it must be there and can get the technique down right, before checking on a car you aren't sure about like this 69 stripe on the 70. |

Soft sand the rusted area back down and you might get the ghost now.
Wrong side of Car, but here is a pic of my old 70 for reference. Original factory stripes shown (and PHS documented). Had one Maaco-type paint job but stripes were the originals and had been poorly taped off at time of repaint. I be damned if I'd repaint it LL Green - even if the paint name was spelled out on the tag - LoL. I still see it as an open book to any pre-70 or non-Pontiac 70 color. But it's not mine anyway. That Saturn Yellow sounded interesting. |
