If it's too detailed to drive it's too nice!

I was told Thortons who I believe are more of an Oldsmobile restorer but I am suspicious.

If it was an Oldsmobile restorer, than that would explain why some of the little details are incorrect. Like the 2 breathers, white vent knobs and some other minor things. All of which are easily fixed and will be very soon.

Bigpop stated in April when this thread started that the oil filter should be painted engine color. Do I have the correct filter and then it got painted or just overspray from painting the motor ? If anyone sees anything else that is incorrect please let me know. Thank you

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard!

Great Black 65 GTO!! Please try to have the correct factory Red Pinstripes applied as they would look awesome on that black paint!

I see 2 small items under the hood that should be corrected.
1) Oil dipstick
2) Bracket holding the PCV hose was not used on this car.
3) Heater hose spring clamps? I think the early 65's had these and later 65's had the tower clamps. Something to research pertaining to your build date.

THANKS for sharing!

Well only because you asked. LOL

The seat belts should have retractors and date code tags, if don't. I see they are laying loose on seat?

Thanks for the feed back. I believe the seat belts are correct (no retractors from the factory) but the seat belt emblems are incorrect for non retractors ? The pinstripe color is a tough one. Red would look great on the black but the white interior is so pronounced that white might be what was used back in the day.

those are DELUXE buckles it looks like.

The pinstripe was a opt.out thing. The salesman (person) could mark on order form NO STRIPE This was not a charge back item.At customer request.

The early cars were hand done as I understand. later they stenciled them.

Beautiful car. I wouldn't put a stripe on it. Looks just fine "nekked"

Are you old enough to remember what they looked like from the factory?

I am in New York so not to far from Thortons. I agree about the stripe. I think it looks cleaner with out one. I was only 1 year old (1965)when my father bought a new 1965 tripower 4speed convert. Nightwatch blue w/blue interior. A year later someone stole the transmission, my sister was born and my father decided it was time to become an adult so he sold the car for a 4 door Chrysler 6 banger. 20 years later he came across an exact match to his original GTO #s matching and bought it. He still has it today and will never part with it until he is dead. (his words) That feeling of owning his original car gave him such a burst of life, that we started collecting 65-67 converts. Presently we own 26 GTOs, all converts except for the one I just bought. I know some people will doubt what I say but will post some pics of the collection when I get a chance. The sad thing is these cars have been sitting for 20 years and it shows. They have always been stored indoors since we purchased them, but still does not protect them as good as we would like. They have all been off the road for at least 20 years.
