Thank You wase. I don't know what color it is. The car was originally Signet Gold. The previous owner had a backyard painter repaint it Gold and this was the color he ended up with. I really like it and am going to keep the repaint close. I love Gold cars, and that was what caught my eye with this car when I saw it sitting in a corner of an old manufacturing plant filled with muscle cars.

Nassau, could it be Martinique Bronze, or close to it? If you can find out the color I'd like to know, it looks real sharp. My car's original color was Martinique Bronze. I'm thinking of going back to the original color, and I'd like to see one that someone knows is actually painted MBronze. To me it looks better than red.

I agree, gold looks very good on our year pontiacs. My 67 was originally Champagne gold, with gold interior. I used to see a 67 around that was Signet gold which looked good. A person in our local club had a 66 that was Martinique bronze, which to me looked just a little more brown than Signet. I was told at the local paint store that the original mixes couldn't be had with modern materials. At that time I was looking to get champagne, and a 98 saturn color was the closest thing. While my car sits in primer I'm still looking at colors and another gold that I find that I can have done is from 2000 Chrysler.
stwrangler..good luck with your 66 lemans. It reminds me of my first car and lots of good times in my green 66, thirty+ years ago. |

Nassau, I agree, I've got to put it back to MBronze someday. That Ford Mustang Sunburst Gold is nice but it's a Ford color. The car would kill it's self with that on it. LOL But at least it's better than Chrysler Poppy Red....... I like red, don't get me wrong, but not red from another car company. Wellll, maybe Ferrari red.
Hope to catch ya at Eastwood's car show this summer.

Here are some pics of my 66 GTO.
Attachment 122416Attachment 122417Attachment 122418Attachment 122419Attachment 122420 I have owned the car since 1982. It was sold new to a dealer in Birmingham Al, where is spent all its life up til 1980. I bought it from a guy in Corunna Ontario. The body is rust free and straight as an arrow (from the good AL weather I guess). It is the original color Marina Turquiose, with turquoise interior. It did have a white vinyl top, but it was off the car long before I got it. I have had the entire car apart many times, but never has the frame been off. I am afraid if I go to that level of detail I will never drive it. Now since the bottom is basically original with undercoat, I do not mind driving it a lot, even in the rain. I am running a 69 428 and it is a lot of fun. I do have the 66 389 WS engine sitting in the corner of the garage awaiting the day I fall down the slippery slope of body off restoration. Until then I will cruise it it and have fun, while I begin my 1970 RAIII TA body off restoration (check out my web blog).

WaltD:
Beautiful car. Nice color combo, interior, etc. 428PHIL: I'm a "GTO" guy, but love the LeMans' & Tempest's too. I would love to get a '66 or '67 Tempest Sprint 4spd Hdtp to add to my small collection. Of course, there are about 15 other Pontiacs that I'd love to add as well, and about 35 other non Pontiac cars/trucks I'd like to add as well. Also, I am sick of seeing Tempest's or LeMans' advertised as "GTO clones". There is nothing wrong with advertising it as a Tempest or LeMans.

Walt, other than the cost was it hard to put the 67 grills in your 66. The 67 grill was one of the nicest looking grills Pontiac ever made. Your car looks great.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The grills went right in. The resto shop did the work. He mentioned that they fit great. I bought them from Performance Years.

May I suggest some constructive criticism...The front of your aluminum radiator needs painted black. Just paint the core & lower tank on the side facing away from the motor so it does not stand out from the front of the car. The top tank & side facing the motor will still be aluminum & look great when the hood is open. Other than that, your car is beautiful. Edit: I just notice that you have a cross flow rad. You might have to paint the whole front of the rad black.

Yeah Grrrs I've noticed that too. Of course I've always liked the 67 grill over the 66 grill. Funny how a 66 looks nicer with the 67 front grill parts than the original 66s.
Those two filler pieces on a 66 are spot welded on the fenders you say? I know they're hard to find. I wonder if they come with a new repo frender? I've never seen a picture of a 66 rerpo fender that shows that side. And I've never had my fenders off to see.... not this GTO I have now or the one I had back in 1970.
