alright, i have noticed a mix match of j-nuts or u-nuts on this car...are you guys seeing these two different ones on your 70 cars as well ? The part numbers i came up with is, 1970 - 3784845 1971 - 1494253 (which i presume is the bottom picture)

This style i have noticed to be on 71 and 72 year as well.

so far, i'm only noticing those on the radiator core support on this car. The rest so far are of the 71-72 style

I assume your car was built before july ?? Maybe in april ??

my 70 Core had the welded "square nuts" on the bottom, the other style pictured was used for the canister return line though

Yes, they used different types. My understanding is only 70 used the square nuts. after that they went to the rounder, extruded/stamped nuts -- although a few were used in 70. What do your 71s have on them?

The norwood 71 and 72 cars here have the "square" style i did not see any of the hex ones. I looked at a van nuys 71 today and seen a mix match of both styles on that one.

By "square" I meant the clip/U-nut assembly. (actually rectangular)

This style i have noticed to be on 71 and 72 year as well.

Aside from the two upper inner fender clips, all 1970 cars clips would be of the style you show here-inner fender side clips, foward innerfender bottol inserts, radiator support etc.. 1971 started using the current round style .. There are a few spots on 71's where the welded nut style was used, but majority of 1971> used the round speed unts..look in you 1970 and/or 1971 assembly manuals..you will see the differing applications of each style based on part numbers.. a lot of work to prove, but I know it is correct..

$285,000... sort of pissed me off. helped the guy, never made a single penny, sourcing him all kind of hard to find NOS parts(some I myself needed badly)... under the assumption this was for his collection.. he got the 1st place at the Nats, giving him the provenance as a good correct car and hit a $285,000 bid.. really pissed me off. It was a VN car as well. If I am not mistaken...there were only 3 VN manual cars made?? I must be wrong, seems like too low.. but some reason that number of 3 is stuck in my head..

They are quite fair, something like $75 for 12 lbs cleaned.. or for a little more will clean your parts..

If you need any 1970 only parts PM me..I have a ton of NOS and original parts that you will need to do this car correct.. Plus you are welcome to ask any questions..I was the guy who provided all the correct finish, part etc info on the 70 RAIV that won 1st at the Nat's a few years back..

I think there are only 6 or so still licensed to use real cadmium.. Plus, cadmium is a muted silver and gold finish vs the shiney, almost electric finish of silver and gold zinc.. Just looks out of place on 40 yr old cars.. And being a RAIV..odds are will not be redone again.. I really hope you do it with real cadmium.. If you have already done zinc, it removes easily using muratic acid.. eats zinc right off.

There's Mister Bill. We were wondering why you hadn't chimed in yet.

Like F400 I have also found that the gusset bracket nuts were of the round type in 70 -- assembly part #...253 ( shorter version of the '258 used on the inner fender)

This is great documentation on a great car. Would you mind posting a few more pictures of the stripe details?

It's interesting that they may be the original stripes even though a re-paint. I can tell by the 'line' at the radius of the roof stripe that they are original stripes. Repro's like the one's I've recently developed do not have that 'overlay' of the gradient.
