Paul Had to all the way back to a 1972 issue of the Pontiac Parts Book. They call it an Escutcheon, Console Shift Opening: Group 10:240. Used only on '65 & '66 Tempest, LeMans, and GTO's. Part # 9781520

Reminds me of a funny story my parts guy at Kole Pontiac Chuck told me. A guy came in and wanted to buy a "prindal". After talking to him he eventually figured out he wanted a new shift indicator "P-R-N-D-L"

This is the first I saw this thread. Car looks decent Paul. Glad to see you back in a '66. I didn't have time to read the entire thread, but I plan to later today.

What date was the car built? I am going to have a complete, running '66 GTO 389 WT (4bbl) long block (no intake/carb) available soon out of my car. My new engine is at the machine shop now and I will be assembling it soon.

It might be date correct for your car

I picked up a rebuilt 455 from carb to pan and fan to flexplate for $800 In St Louis a couple of years ago. Then clean it up, stick some new gaskets in it, paint it, stick it in and sell the 389. It could probably be done pretty cheap if you got a couple hundred out of your running 389. Just take some video of the 389 running with a temp and oil pressure gauge readings before you pull it. Just a thought.

Nice GTO BTW
I certainly hope he can get more than a couple of hundred for a complete, running '64 GTO coded engine.

The GTO was born on 5/27/1966. Funny, I just realized that the 389 motor is the fourth week of May, 1964. Funny how that worked out.

When you have that motor out of your car, let me know. I may have been able to make up my mind what I want to do with this thing by then. Just for kicks, send me a PM on the details when you have time Tod.

I have a '66 intake and rebuilt carb from a WT that I may be willing to give up in the near future as well. Plan to swap a tri-power onto mine.

Based on that, I did a Google search. I found the 66 Console section of Paul Zazarine's book. Cool exploded detail view of the parts! My wife keeps asking me what I want for Christmas - I think I need this book.

It's a great book...but keep in mind, it touches on all the '64 to '72 models. A jack of all and master of none. Still, a must have for the GTO owner. Plus, it's just a fun book to flip through with a cup of coffee by the fireplace.

From what I had read I thought it was a big car 2barrel 389? Anyhow the idea is still the same.

Wouldn't Paul need a YS motor instead of the WT since his is an automatic 4bbl car? The transmission is the correct one is it not? My car has the correct born with automatic transmission, and I thought to get the correct motor for a 4bbl car I needed to find a YS engine. I could be wrong though, it wouldn't be the first time

X2, I actually had a copy of the book before I bought my first GTO. I got a first edition copy when I purchased the 66 Vert, it came along with all the other documentation I got on the car. The first edition only covers 64-70. It is a very good reference manual, as Greg said, it is a must have!

This auction- http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-PONTIAC-...6228cb&vxp=mtr
is for a true '63-'64 piece, and that is why its painted the gun metal blue. I wish I had seen that, as I could use on one of my cars. IT is the same as 65-6 GTO/Lemans, and may be the same for '67 Lemans,

I was referring to the ebay auction that was posted for the NOS shifter plate for 63 fullsize. It's gunmetal blue which is correct for 64 GTO, but the part could be painted black for 65-6, and I think it's the same part for '67 Lemans.

Looks like the $49 opening, or BuyItNow, whichever. They pop up sometimes.
