If you read further down on the first page, it's the correct casting for a '64 GTO 4bbl. Not an easy engine to find. I know most like the larger cube engines but someone, somewhere is looking for a correct '64 GTO engine I'm sure.

Yes, your info is correct.

Sorry to cause confusion. I had not looked too close at Paul's car being an automatic. A WT is a 4bbl, 4speed motor. I was looking for a WS to be proper in my car, but decided to go another direction.

I know the automatic motors start with a Y, but I don't know the specific codes.

If you are looking for a 66 389, I would be more conscious of a complete motor with a correct date code as opposed to one with the correct stamping. This is what certain renowned restoration shops usually do. You can guess what happens next.....

Well, one thing in favor of the '66 engine is that even without the correct stamping....anyone with much knowledge can spot a '64 engine at a glance and know it's not for a '66. With the '66, they'd have to work a little harder to know it's not correct.

Santa's bringing me a new Covercraft Flannel Car Cover for my '72 GTO, the present one is 30 years old and needs to be retired.

Default Shocks

I'm ordering the Kyb. I've been happy with these in the past so I'm getting them again.

Question.....they have two models that fit a GTO. 5504 and 5507. The only difference is the 5507 is a bit longer typically used on full size cars. I put these on my blue Lemans after I found out the wheels and tires needed more lift and the 5504 wouldn't support it because they were too short.

I don't want to buy another set if I buy the 5504 and find myself in the same situation. I. Haven't decide what to get with tires sizes yet if I do make the change and ditch the RI wheels.

Question is this.... If I buy the 5507 and don't need the extra length, will the ride be affected at all?

Have you considered air bags? They have worked well for me in the past. They are relatively inexpensive, adjustable, and don't have a negative effect on ride quality. About $100 at jets.

Yea but can they adjust right height? Ive never used them. Its sounds like they are the same principle as air shocks.

Paul, I have both and like the setup alot. Airbags can change the ride heigth but not like the airshocks can. They more or less can soften or stiffen up the ride. Combination of the two will help your car have much less sway going around sharpe curves like an on or off ramp. Also lets you have more clearance for wider tires.

I can fill the airbags on mine individually, and both airshocks at the same time.

Took the car to a local reputable shop today. Wanted to get the motor compression tested before we do anything to it. It just runs like crap. Didn't get that far though. First four plugs that were pulled, one could not possibly have been firing. Moved over to the driver side and three of the plugs were caked in what appeared to be fresh oil. Don't think three of them were firing either.

Looks like I'm going to search a complete 400 and stick it in the car. At least that's what my first thought is. Budget is tight and I'd just like a healthy motor running int car Plus something I can build on in the future.

The 64 389 will go up for sale. It's a good motor, just needs a rebuild. I don't want to put money intro this motor.
