They can be a handfull and ride like shear crap. I see guys today building faux gassers with straight axles for the street. I don't know why and I am sure that a year or two later they regret it.

a guy down the road built a early 50's chevy and made a gasser with a straight axle. normally I wouldn't give a car that year a 2nd look, but everytime I see him drive it, it just stops me in my tracks.

My straight axle drives like an old truck, probably because it is an old truck.

Just to stir the pot a little, a few posts of some of the competition from 1965. This is my Chevelle from the Winter of 1965/1966.
And how it looked in about 1984 when I restored it the first time.

Were those beltline pinstripes standard or an option? I wonder why so many restored cars leave them off. They look great!

I'm looking for a set of these for my 65, wondering if you have NOS, or very nice originals available? |

I think they get left off because it's one of those details that some restorers miss (like wrong Rally I centercaps, or wrong lug nuts). K

Great Pic there K, I always wondered how they could get those painted on stripes so perfect. I was 12 YO at the time the 65s were brand new and I still remember how the little bit of contrasting paint just looked so right on a brand new A body at the time.
Any time these cars were repainted the stripe was 99% of the time either deleted, or if it was restored, put back on with tape. At least where I lived there were no painters capable of pinstriping with a brush or even one of those roller wheel tools. Pinstriping is pretty much a lost art for many years now. my father used to work as an apprentice in a body shop back in the 30s, when pinstriping was used on many production cars. He used to tell me that if the painter was sober, he could never lay down a straight stripe. He told me that after he had a few drinks, the stripe was straight as an arrow...………….. |

When they were cheap old cars
1981 Total investment of $ 5-600 all junkyard parts, 68 GP 400, Muncie 4 speed, 66 chevelle 12 bolt. mostly 66 gto interior
It was an Arizona car in western Pa, most of them were rusted out by then in our area but there was still a lot of parts around. Ran the heck out of it that summer made big money on it when I sold it for around 1200 LOL |
