Default Spring installed but tool stuck

I am installing tubular control arms and got the spring installed (3 different times) and now I can't get the spring compressor tool out of the inside of the spring. Anyone have any tips for getting it out. Thanks

I can't make out exactly what you've got going on there. But it appears you're trying to drop the tool out the bottom? Can you roll it and bring it out the side, between the coils?

There's not enough space between the coils. I think I might need to go get a bigger pry bar

I had a similar situation - putting tubular controls arms in with new shorter springs and no engine in chassis or body on chassis. I was within about 1/2" of getting the ball joint stud thru the spindle and not enough weight to jack against. Had a family member sit on the furthest part out on the front of the frame (leverage) and it was still not good enough. I put a very good ratchet strap and pulled it down that last part of an inch to get the stud up thru. I did put a heavy chain across the spring "just in case" so it could not come out. Did not need to use a spring compressor at all. Worked great - be careful. I had to do this by myself as well.

Can you "roll" it out the bottom? Drop one hook, then the body, then the other hook?

May be a matter of finding that one perfect spot... I understand the frustration. It's likely, but not guaranteed, that if it's the correct tool, it will come out. Do you have a picture of the tool out in the open? It's hard to see inside the spring...

That "should" come out. Work to get it standing straight up, one hook top, one hook bottom, and you should be able to get it through the bottom hole.

I have used a Blue Point spring compressor to install shortened front springs and have not had this problem, though it’s difficult to get out. The Blue Point Model has a different shaped “block” that attaches to the hooks than the one you are using. I agree with Scott65’s advice it may be finding the perfect spot.

Good luck.

I used Global west arms with a tool light that and never had any issues. What arms are they? Maybe hole is too small?

I used pretty much the same tool. IIRC, it came out in between the coils when I allowed the spring to expand as much as possible.

I stopped using the hooks, never could position them so they didn't get locked up . I just use the flat plate with the rod going thru the shock hole in the frame. Tightening the nut at the shock hole compresses the spring against the frame. Once installed and loosened, the plate slides out and rod drops out the lower shock hole. I also feels safer with the chassis "caging" the spring.

Where do you put the plate? Between the coils?

I’ve used the same spring compressor many times, but my suspension is stock so I don’t know if that makes a difference. I pushed one side up until the piece holding the hooks was as vertical as possible, then pushed it out. It was not easy so if your suspension is shortened then that my be the problem. In this case, can you undo a ball joint and get some length without extending it too much. Like with a floor jack.

I've used the same tool too and have had the same issue. I had to have someone else show me how to remove it.

There should be enough room, though it is tight, to move the hook parts of the spring compressor around to slip it through the bottom shock absorber hole in the lower A-arm. I think when I did it, I put one hook up and one hook down so the bar that the hooks attach to vertical (perpendicular to the A-arm).

When one the hooks is pointing down and the other is pointing up and the bar is not sideways like in your photo, that part of the spring compressor is much narrower and easily fits out the bottom of the A-arm.

Good luck!

I put in front springs like rustedgoat said. No spring compressor. Grade 8 threaded rod and steel plates top and bottom and nuts on the rod . Safer too,!!
