I would council strongly on NOT accepting a counter offer no matter how good it my seem.
All too often an employer will make a counter offer which if accepted can give them a "cushion" while they sort themselves out and look for a new employee. Once that new guy is established they can start finding reasons for letting you go Good luck with your new career Ian

Congratulations! Hope it works out for you. As fate would have it, I was offered a new gig today with a competitor. Much smaller place, many fewer layers of bureaucracy/management and I'll be able to make a bigger impact. I've known their service director for 20 years and know what he's about. Going to put in my notice tomorrow.
