Default Microwave fire Saturday nite.

Ever have one?

Son put a chicken pot pie in for 3 minutes. Walked into living room, bout 2-3 minutes later...BOOM!
Good thing there's an extinguisher mounted by kitchen door. And the latch held!
Said flame and smoke like a blast furnace upon opening to extinguish.
Plate was shattered and pie black, hard as coal.
Came out to garage to get me. Oven was still so hot, had to use gloves to take it outside.
Whole house was filled with smoke.
Even after using fans with widows open, still smells like burnt toast and dry chemical.

Wow! Glad everyone was OK. Sucks about the pot pie though.

Never had that happen, but we had a babysitter put a microwave popcorn bag in upside down once. Whole house smelled like burnt popcorn for a week or two.

We had a microwave go out a couple months ago. Put something in and 30 seconds later heard a horrible electrical zap sound. Very scary! No real smoke but had that burned electrical smell.
Pulled the spare micro out of the garage.

I had a small fire start in the microwave at work once because the Olive Burger inside the bag was wrapped in foil paper, which I was unaware of.
I was standing there watching it so the damage was only a little bit of smoke in the kitchen, and my pride.

My daughters once decided to make "Shrinkie Dinks" while I was outside splitting wood. They knew they were not allowed to use the oven, as is the traditional way to "shrink" them. Instead, they used the microwave...placed them on a paper towel and set the timer for 3 minutes. Smoke detectors went off, lots of smoke in the house, dogs barking, girls screaming...microwave on fire. I ran inside, pulled the plug on the unit, which was still running...picked it up and threw it in the yard. Good times.

You do know "microwave" popcorn is on every 10 ten list of cancer causing substances?
Something about the chemical coating on inside of bag.
I wont touch it. Besides, stove top is best, and air popping next better imo.

Ok.
It wasn't the pot pie.
Same brand we always use. Was last one in a "4" pack.
No sign of any metal objects.
Think gona do an experiment. Start with small pieces of steel Then maybe a big piece...

Funny reminded me of this: Did you ever really look at the "liquid butter" used @ movie houses on popcorn? it's really some sort of saturated oil looking substance loaded w sodium and artificial flavoring no doubt. Healthy?

Now you know why they want you to poke a few holes in the crust before you cook it! :P

I just lost my combo microwave/oven/convection oven a couple weeks ago. No explosion, but it just gave out right in the middle of warming some food up. That thing wasn't cheap either. Have to go out and find another one soon. It stinks not having it right now.
