Anyone have a suggestion for a 67 hood latch?
Hi all, I'm "restoring" a 68 firebird. Originally a 350HO car, it's been in storage since 1981 till I picked it up a year ago. It came with a trailer load of parts including a real 67 400 hood, as well as the original 350 flat hood. Since the original 350 motor is gone, I have no choice but to use the 69 428 that came with it, and use the 400 hood. ok, so obviously I have a choice, but I WANT to use the 400 hood. Problem is, I don't have a 67 hood latch, but a 68. I also have not been able to find one for sale anywhere!
Does anyone either know of a true 67 hood latch sitting around or have a reasonable mod I could use to latch a 67 hood with a 68 latch? I've done just enough research to find that if you actually get your 67 hood closed with a 68/69 latch you may not be able to open it again. The car is not going to be a faithful numbers matching restoration but rather a budget home built restomod so a unique solution is acceptable, as long as it's not hood pins. I tried to attach photos but for some reason I was only allowed to attach one and it showed up upside down so I removed it thanks for any help! Jeff |

Did you post a want ad over on the first gen site? I did this swap twice a few years back. Nothing easier. (once you find a '67 latch) One I bought outright, and the other one I swapped my '68 latch with someone who had a '67 and needed a '68.

Drill out the spot welds on both receivers and swap the '68 onto the '67 hood.
