Default transmission leak at driveshaft seal

Guys I have looked this up on a few forums, however I am not sure if this is the same problem. I have transmission leak around the outer seal of my th400 transmission. The leak is not where the yoke of the drive shaft slides inthe transmission but the outside perimeter of where the seal meets the th400 rear housing.. I have included a picture for a better reference. This is a new build and only 100 miles on this set up. Any idesa on how to fix this?

Permatex flange sealer. U smear a light film of it around the outer surface of the metal face of seal that get pushed into the tail stock…….helps seal any small voids

I do that with all seals of that type actually. It not only insures the sealing action but lubes it a bit for easier installation.

This looks to be something I've really needed in my garage for sometime. Appreciate the advice.

Yup, had to do that on my old TH400 as well. Have to remove the seal, smear the flange with sealer, and reinstall. Over time the finish on the bore degrades from corrosion and seal replacement. The seal itself just doesn't seal as well as it once did when the transmission tail housing was new.

I never install a seal like that dry, I normally use silicone but the Permatex flange seal may be better suited. I also lightly sand the mating surface of the seal. I do the same when installing freeze plugs.

I usually use a thin application of permatex #2 on the id and od of seals like that..... the exact product matters less than the fact of using something at all

Timely, as the crankshaft seal on the Ford I’m building right now is almost identical. Wondering how I was going to get that in the aluminum cover, and have it seal up,as it was a royal PIA to get the old one out.

Couldn’t find anything specifically marked “flange sealer” from Permatex. Is this it?
Says good for aluminum and cast iron flanges

Anaerobic sealers work good in this application

After I posted that I Googled and did find the specific flange sealer being discussed, but my local place doesn’t have it. I’ll use the stuff I pictured rather than drive to the next closest store-50 mile trip.
Thanks
