Default O.T. But A Hell Of A Lot Of Fun To Drive!

This is my new addition to the fleet. Introducing "Stubby"

With the 383 Stroker, 4 Speed, 9in Ford rear with 3:90 gears & that extremely short wheel base....When you dump the clutch you got your hands full & I LOVE it! I will never get too old to not want that adrenaline rush driving something like this provides.

I was told it was originally built in the early 60's as an altered wheel base race car & would love to find out its history, so on the off chance anyone on the forum has seen it before & could provide some information, I would greatly appreciate it.

I also included one picture with my GP in it to make my post a little more on topic

God Bless
Bill

Now, that's cool. Haven't seen one of those half size tri-fives since I was a teenager.

You're going to have better luck finding any history on the car on THE HAMB than here. Gotta be a wild ride for sure.

Yes, the HAMB definitely gives me a better chance of finding any history about it. I actually did a thread there 1st, but I figured I would take a chance here as well just in case..

Can't wipe the smile off my face after a blast in front of the house! The weather forecast for Turkey Day is 50 & sunny, so I will try to get time to take the wife for a ride around the block. She loves the cars, cruises, races & speed but she has never ridden in anything like this before I am not sure yet what it will run in a quarter mile pass, but my XLR-V runs 12.7 from the factory, but that is an easy 12.7, she enjoyed that, just not sure how she will handle riding in something that actually has to be driven to get there. I think maybe mid 11's is reasonable.

God Bless

My Wife's might be bigger than mine, because she went for a ride with me after Thanksgiving dinner! I did take it a bit easy as I only launched at about 4K. A couple of things concern me with her in the car......Without wheelie bars, the expression keep it between the ditches out here in the country really applies! Our ditches are deep & the road I live on is way less than 2 lanes wide! The other issue is Death Wobble & those that have dealt with straight axle cars know it well. This car has it coming out of a pothole/dip , so front end geometry will be high on my list as I check over this car completely!

Regardless....This thing is a blast to drive!

God Bless

Neat little car clearly built off of a 4-door sedan.

Wheelbase is too short for any kind of real high speed stability, no way I’d want to drive that thing at 80+ if that. The tube axle makes it even scarier.

Enjoy it for sprinting zero to sixty and for the looks it’s surely going to generate but don’t let it be the death of you.

I solved the "death wobble" of my 1917 Buick by adding a steering damper- a spare shock absorber between the front axle and the tie rod.

Thanks Bart,

Not very many high speed runs planned for Stubby, but after I get it straightened out (especially the front end) , a couple of passes at Norwalk could be in its future. Hard to resist when the track is only 13 miles from here. Plans are to take it to Lloydfest 2024 ( a HAMB get together in Owingsville, Ky) that is an 1/8 mile track. I will make a couple of passes there (before the adult beverages flow around the nightly camp fire!

One of these years you got to hop on a plane & come to the Nationals here!

Thanks @Jack Gifford for the advice!

Plans are to add a steering stabilizer, but I want to do that last after a good inspection of the components, Caster, axle angle, etc. Stabilizers are great, but they can mask a worn out part in some cases.

God Bless
Bill

I can't only imagine a car show, cruise night, or a day at a track with "half-pints".

With the GTO that was done and these 2, is that all of them? I imagine not but I've not seen any others.

NO......There is a Facebook group called "Shorty Aficionados". (If you are on FB) with lots of pictures of them.

My friend Johnny Sweet from down in South Carolina built 16 Shorty's of all different models back in the day!

@4zspeed .....That is where the drivers ability comes into play!

I saw a shorty wagon on FB a couple of weeks ago that was very similar to the Plymouth posted above. It was something like a 6-7 second car. I believe it was a fiberglass bodied funny car but still way cool. I couldn't figure out how to link to it for this thread.
