Seeing it now. It can change the person afflicted obviously, and can turn family world into a new dimension. 24/7 care is the path and either someone gives up their life(s) as caregiver(s) or a lot of $$$ on care centers.

I have an aunt in Unadilla, NY that has it too.. for about the last 3 years. I want to go up and see her but I was told it would be a waste of time as she has it bad and knows no one. She was my favorite aunt and it just kills me that this happened. I know how Jim's family and friends feel.

Such a shame...so much knowledge, and memories will be locked away forever. May his twilight years be smooth and comfortable......

Default Blessed that we had him

Sad to hear of his current condition, but we were all blessed to have him around for so long and so active. I was able to meet him at Carlisle some years back and he was a kind and gracious man, who was just as complimentary towards my then new acquisition of a 66 Tri-Power.

I suppose many on the forum have read his book. If you haven’t I strongly recommend it. Thank goodness he put his experiences on paper for us and future generations to read.

I have it, he signed it for me;
Life got busy so I put it down, and didn't continue reading it - but I have been intending for a couple weeks to pick it up again and start from the beginning.

Here is Jim Wangers and my '64 GTO at The Milwaukee Masterpiece in 2014. He was very cordial and loved to talk about the Woodward Ave. days of cruising with his Firebird.

I hope he does as well as possible in spite of his malady.

Good Luck, Jim!!

The best way to keep Jim's memories alive is to continue sharing the ones we have of him and the stories he told and shared. Too many have passed without writing their memories down for future generations to read, Jim luckily for us loved to share his.

I'm glad my son & I got to meet Jim in Tulsa at the 2007 national meet along with getting a signed picture of him with the GeeTO Tiger. Glad to hear Jim is getting the care he needs. Thoughts & prayers go out to Jim.

I had lunch with Jim yesterday. We had a great couple of hours. For him to call me by name as I walked in was heart warming.

Seeing him in a diminished capacity is hard, but the visit was special for both of us. It is his short term memory that is greatly effected. He may not remember today that we visited yesterday, but while we visited he was a happy man.

For all of you that got to meet and talk to Jim, you were lucky. Where I lived up North there was a slim to none chance we'd ever get that chance. Even here in Delaware it was slim to none. unless to traveled to see him. I never had that chance.

But at least I do have a pair his 85th Birthday GTO emblems.

I totally understand what going on. My mother in law is just starting the advance stages of dementia/Alzheimer. She in a care facility very close to us. My wife is there daily after school and am over there 2-3 times a week. Lucky for us she has saving to off set her monthly cost of care, still we have to kick more than i like to see from our savings. The toll this disease takes on family and friends is devastating. My heart goes out to family and close friends of Jim.
