I think that car was talked about on another thread? Looks familiar to me....

Personally I would think that car would be less desirable than the std 400 engine. Yes, low production,
but kind of the opposite of the low production 400 HO automatic.

I could be wrong here, but I would rather have the 1 of 5000 400 4bbl engined cars.
maybe I'm off base, just my personal opinion.

I would think that car would be desirable would be if it was 1 of 50 cars made, or something like that?
Then the lesser engine, would be offset by really low production & then some.
But hey, its still a convertible, but sure looks like a big project!

Maybe its one of one, with the bumper delete, 2bbl engine and a rag top, but why bother when it's that far gone and that undesirable.

How much is it going to cost to restore? has to be way more than it's worth.

a set of 16 heads and a cam and intake and you have a std. gto engine.

While it is neat to see that this day and age, it's not a desirable car by any means. There is a reason they were rare even when new 99% of the public wasn't looking for a 2 barrel engine when shopping for a GTO. I'm disappointed Pontiac would even offer that on the GTO lineup. His/her shifter with a 2 barrel??? What were they thinking?

But if you want to be different, it certainly is that. Will take a boat load of money to restore that one though.

I had a 2 barrel GTO and people laughed at it, but it was a nice car. It was definitely less desirable than a 4-barrel car.

The 68 GTO above is too far gone to restore in my opinion, unless you plan to keep the car for a long time. The cost to restore it would exceed the value of the car.

I was curious so that's why I started thread. Why would someone order a GTO with a 2 barrel? Was ordering the GTO the only way to get the 400 engine? Would it have been cheaper for them to get the Tempest with a 400 if possible? Maybe for the name GTO only? As far as value I understand it's a mess but it's a GTO rag top and it will sell but don't see more than 4000 but you never know. I hope some one saves it but it won't be done to make money as a lot of us understand. Doug

my very first GTO was a 2bbl 69. low option... bench seat, auto, 2bbl, AM radio, power steering and deluxe wheelcovers.

It has a 2.93 axle and ran very nicely with good response, only when you floored it did you discover that it was 100 horses shy of a full deck.

In this case the car would be worth more with a non matching 4bbl GTO engine than a matching numbers 2bbl (PHS doesn't report the presence of the 2bbl since it was a N/C option).

The original owner of my 2 barrel 69 GTO bought the car off the lot new. He said he test drove a stripped down 4 barrel car and a loaded up 2 barrel car. He said he didn't notice a difference in performance between the two cars and he preferred the power windows and A/C of the loaded up 2 barrel, so that's what he bought.
