Default Manual Trans

On a 4 speed G body does the shifter hump fit over the carpet or under the carpet? I saw a picture a 79 GP on here and it looked as if the hump fit over the carpet. We are about ready to buy some carpet for a 4 speed car and we could not locate any that was manual transmission specific like you would a GTO.

If it fits over the carpet how did the factory fasten the hump to the floor? Thanks

The carpet goes between the metal hump (it's spot welded to the trans tunnel) and the plastic interior "hump". The interior plastic hump is secured with a chrome metal ring screws down through the plastic hump and into the metal floor hump.

Thanks for the information. So is the carpet molded for the 4 speed hump like a GTO would be?

I'll have to check to see if mine was pre formed. ... I just went out and checked my carpet (it's out of the my El Camino) and it doesn't appear to be preformed. It looks like a hole, just big enough to fit around the steel trans hump, was cut out of the carpet. The plastic hump then overlaps the carpet by about 1 1/2".

Great! I appreciate the information. Sounds like we have an idea as to what to order now.
